Knightly Knews 10/13/17 Friday, OCTOBER 13, 2017

It was a great week at Smith Middle School. Three weeks to go in the first card marking--yes, time does fly when you're having fun!

Sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences (October 18 & 19) will close at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17. Click here to go to the parent sign up site.

Pictures and information from this week are below, as well as a schedule of next week's activities at the bottom of the page. Enjoy your weekend!

U-Knighted

Thursday kicked off U-Knighted with our small groups and then an all-school assembly in the gym. Students met in their U-Knighted groups and took some time to discuss the purpose of U-Knighted: to ensure connectedness between all members of our school community by embracing our tenets of safety, respect and responsibility. We all enjoyed an inspiring message from Dr. Richard Machesky, Superintendent of Troy Schools, a visit from Know-it-All-Knight and Bad Choice Bob, and some fun minute to win it games to end the assembly. We will be meeting with our U-Knighted Groups twice a month to reinforce connectedness as a community.

Lost & Found

The Lost & Found items are now being displayed in the cafeteria. Please be sure to check it out and take anything that belongs to you. Any items not claimed by Friday, October 20, will be donated to a local charity.

Building & Site Sinking Fund

In a little over a month, you will be asked to decide an important issue in the November election. The Troy School District is asking voters to consider a 1 mill Building and Site Sinking Fund. This fund would be created at NO INCREASE TO YOUR CURRENT TAX RATE and would allow us to make necessary repairs and refurbishments to Smith and the rest of our schools.

If you have questions about this proposal, there is lots of information and a FAQ link on the TSD website.

But the most important thing to do right now is to make sure you are registered to vote! The last day to register is Tuesday, October 10th. Here is the form, which can be dropped off at the City Clerk's office.

As always, thank you for your support!
