THE HOT TAKES
Have you ever heard a more cringe-inducing phrase than "defending our freedoms" used to describe the soldiers of the United States of America? Tyrannical by any standard, poor brainwashed souls enthusiastically sign up the be expendable pawns on a greusome chessboard. There's nothing "defensive" about it, and our freedoms certainly aren't in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, or any of the other places that troops are currently deployed.
This song is short and to the point so I will be too. There is nothing more twisted than thinking that of all things you could choose to sacrifice your life for, that your government should even be on that list.
This song nails what the end result of war inevitably is but I'm not sure how much truth is in the idea that sending people to die. Maybe I need to belive that there is some humanity in the ruling elite enough to believe in war only as a necessary evil. Still it is hard to argue with the point that it is clearly class based. Not lots of politicians with children in the service. certainly not ones who aren't also at least officers. I'm not sure if sending poor people off to die for the profits of a company is any better than simply for fun but at least it seems more human. I can understand it as a motivation.
