Return of the MC mIDLAND STAGES RALLY 2017

Our 2017 rally campaign finally got underway on Sunday last at the Midland Motor Club Moto Stages Rally in Longford. This was the second round of the Triton National Rally Championship series.

WINTER UPGRADES

During the winter we decided it was time to get a 6 speed gearbox. With a very limited amount of manufacturers making a B series version we narrowed it down to the BGT box as it has full warranty and for the fact we got to choose whatever gear ratios we wanted along with custom length drive shafts. It was also time to update the shocks. Although the Proflex were good over the last number of years they were starting to become dated. They were originally designed for a group N car with very little technology improvements in the last 10 years. We looked at various different shock manufacturers including DMS , Sellholm ,Öhlins, Xtrac etc but found the Reigier to be the best for price and availability.

Welcome Onboard

We're delighted to welcome our new sponsors for 2017 - Loco Energy Drink and Mobil1. We’re excited and honored to have such well known brands come on board and support MCNRallying for the year ahead.

Donegal co driver Dean O’Sullivan stepped into the navi seat for the day and with the welcome support of our new sponsors we decided to switch our entry from the Junior sections to the main field

The opening loop of three very fast stages saw us return to service in 10th Overall position and leading Class 11F. Competition was intense and the little 1600 was working hard to keep a group of more powerful cars behind.

Over the following loop of repeated stages, we pushed on and returned to service in 9th Overall position. A pair of Michelin 21’s were fitted for the final loop of stages and our push continued with some competitive times.

The new Reiger suspension is seriously impressive. We made a few adjustments throughout the day and over the final three stages we continued with our pace and got more and more comfortable with the handling of the car.

Crossing the finish line in 7th Overall position in the rally was more than we expected. It was great to win the Triton Drive of the Day!! I want to thank Dean for a super job on the notes and also the lads at McConnell Motorsport for service.

One last thing, If you haven't been following On The Limit on snapchat already you've been missing out!!! Follow Olive and Mick for all the craic from the next round of the Triton Showers national championship in Monaghan!
