My ideal career Caoimhe mcparland 10A

My ideal career is to be a childcare worker during the summer and mid term breaks I work with my sister in her creshe. To work with children you will need to have the following skills.

excellent communication skills

the ability to work with children and their families in a sensitive and positive way

creativity and imagination for game playing

planning and organisational skills

IT skills

To work with children you will need the following qualifications:

You’ll usually need a qualification in

childcare like the Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (England).

The Department for Education (DfE) has information on all approve childcare qualifications.

If you don’t have a Level 2 qualification, you can start out by working as an assistant where you’ll be supervised by more experienced staff. This could be a paid job or through volunteering. You could then train while you work.

GCSEs (A* to C) in English and maths could help you get a job.

The salary for a starter would be something around £14,000 to £17,000 a year.

For a experienced worker would be paid £17,000 to £22,000 (room leader)

For a highly experienced worker would be paid up to £24,000 (deputy manager)
