All assemblies take place at 2.50 pm and all parents/guardians are welcome to attend to celebrate the children’s work. This year classes will also be hosting celebration afternoons, during which parents will be invited into school to share and celebrate learning with their children. Watch out for further details from your child’s teacher.
We had a very successful open evening last night with many new prospective parents/children looking around our school. If you, or somebody you know, missed the event we have another date in the diary and this is Tuesday 8 October. There are two sessions - one at 1.15 pm or 2.15 pm.

Pupil Premium & School Budget
As I’m sure you are aware from the press school budgets are becoming increasingly tight. So, perhaps you could help boost ours via the Pupil Premium grant. Pupil Premium is a Government grant given to children from lower income families. Schools receive £1300 for every pupil who is eligible, so it is very important that every child who meets the criteria is registered. If your child is in the infants, they automatically get free lunches but you may also be entitled to pupil premium. If you don’t apply we don’t get the money. Parents applying can give school another £150,000 – which makes a huge difference. So please help! We use the monies to support your child’s learning but also for subsidised trips etc. If you are in receipt of certain benefits you may be eligible. We will have further information available to advise you on Parents’ Evening. Alternatively, please follow the link to find out more www.blackburn.gov.uk and then search for ‘School Meals’.
You should have received a text/email message today inviting you to make an appointment for Parents’ Evening on Thursday 17 October. Appointments can be made between 3.30 and 8.00 pm. Please follow the link to book your slot. For those parents that need to make an appointment to see either Mrs Wright or Mrs Stowe please contact the office. If you can’t make the 17th, please contact your child’s class teacher to make alternative arrangements.
This year we are promoting the above 6 key values through school. Stars of the week, house points and platinum awards will all link to our core values. I’m sure you will agree that the attributes above are what we would all want to see in our citizens of the future. When children leave us in Year 6 with these values instilled in their everyday life they will be better placed for their life ahead.
It’s sometimes tough being a parent
If you have got children at home who are displaying challenging behaviour and want to get some tips/strategies and/or share your experiences with others then please call in to our drop in session on Tuesday 8 October between 9.00 - 10.00 am. All parents are welcome. Coffee & biscuits available.
Further to the text message yesterday, please remind your child/ren about ‘stranger danger’ as there have been a few reports recently from nearby schools of strangers in the area. If the adult your child is expecting is not on the yard at the end of the day they MUST come back into school and wait.
Year 5/6 Boys Football
Back to winning ways last night – as we gained three points due to our opponents not being able to play in the first match! In our second match we displayed a commanding performance and managed to beat Turton & Edgworth 7:1. Great team work from all the lads and some fantastic goals.
If you have any items of unwanted school uniform, which is in good condition, please bring into school. Friends of Avondale volunteers will be selling items at the Parents’ Evening on 17 October.
Our Harvest assemblies will take place on 9 October. We would ask the children to bring in their Harvest donation on the morning of 9 October. Yet again the School Council has decided to send our gifts to the Food Bank. Any donations of tinned food, dried pasta/rice or toiletries would be much appreciated. This month the value the school is focussing on is kindness. This would be a great opportunity for children to think of others in need and to be kind. Thank you in advance for your support.
