Pumps & Pipes is an association of medical, energy, aerospace, academic and community professionals and leaders. Founded in 2007, our core values are education, communication and collaboration. At its heart, Pumps & Pipes is an interdisciplinary endeavor, emphasizing inclusivity across nations and disciplines, and our guiding principle to problem-solving is “exploring your neighbor’s toolkit.”
Pumps & Pipes Mission
- Provide a platform to bring together professional groups who may not otherwise have the opportunity to interact for the transfer of knowledge and technology know-how.
- Be the leader in promoting cross-industry collaboration to solve challenging problems both within the P&Ps network (i.e., medicine, energy, aerospace) and other high-risk, high-reward challenges including those identified by, but not limited to, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
- Strengthen educational offerings in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) by mentoring educators and offering high-school and college students the opportunity to engage with experts and apply their skills to think outside of the box.

Pumps & Pipes International
Pumps & Pipes is expanding the neighborhood! Our first formal international affiliation is with P&P Norway, which brings together some of Norway’s brightest minds from academia and energy to create innovative solutions to complex problems. Our global reach is growing, with joint initiatives forming from Australia to Qatar, across the spectrum of technical endeavors. P&P Symposia are broadcast live to viewers in 88 countries and all 50 states.

A society of curious people coming together to learn about and share Scientific discoveries, Technology breakthroughs, Engineering marvels, Artistic creativity, and Math analytics and models
Our STEAM initiatives help close the gap between the early middle- and high-school classroom and the future demands of the energy, medicine and aerospace industries by providing teachers, students and industry mentors an opportunity to connect and collaborate in mutual learning projects.
We help place the future of humanity in the hands of bright young minds by strengthening the educational offerings in STEAM disciplines.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Every year, we partner with local schools to select a group of outstanding students to participate in the annual Pumps & Pipes Symposium. These students have the opportunity to interact with heart surgeons, astronauts, and scientists to learn about exciting STEAM careers and connect with potential mentors.
P&P works with industry leaders such as Exxon Mobil, Nalco, NASA, Houston Methodist Hospital, Texas Heart Institute, and others to sponsor field trips and summer projects. Past students have demonstrated their robotics projects at P&P Symposia, broadcasting live to a worldwide audience.
STUDENT & TEACHER MENTORSHIP
Established in 2015, Pumps & Pipes partnered with Houston Independent School District (HISD) to establish a Mentorship Program for high school STEAM teachers. During the multiday program teachers are matched with local aerospace, energy, and medical professionals and visit their research laboratories where students and teachers are exposed to real-world challenges and problem solving in a range of scientific disciplines.
