We are happy to share with you a short report about year 2017 in Eutikhos Educational Program.
We had an eventful year, with many activities, studying, work, playing and walking in the nature. Days of the last year we spent in a pleasant atmosphere, where we organized interesting activities for the children, to give them more pleasure to be in the school.
We use a motivation method to keep them busy with learning and make them active, that is called ‘token market’, they can collect tokens with activities and right answers...
And in the end of a month we organize a ‘market’ where they can buy little sweets or useful items or tools for school. This method is a well-tried motivation device.
In our education, we try to highlight and give the children a good example, teach them obedience, honesty, morality. We try to show them God’s love and bring them closer to God. Gladness to see how their little lives are changing; and in how many ways they can develop.
Many times, we experience that they are happy to do some work outside, in the garden, or just simply cleaning the church yard. Usually they are really enthusiastic about this team work as well.
These little steps can show them that their work is visible and valuable, and how great it is to do good things, and take care, and protect their environment.
In autumn after we started the new school year, together with the children we cleaned the local graveyard, they were very diligent.
In Advent, we started to prepare for Christmas, they’ve learnt poems and songs, dances,
And also, they learned the story Jesus’ birth,
which was played on the afternoon when they got the Christmas presents.
We had a lovely evening together with the kids, teachers and parents.
We are really proud of those pupils who are regularly coming to our afternoon school. We would like to highlight Chereces Zita and Lingurar Santiago now.
Zita is a very talented, hard-working, ambitious girl. She is well behaving, humble, really helpful, and because of these she is loved very much among her classmates. It is uncommon to find so well behaving and learning kids in this work. She had improved a lot in the past years through this project.
She is coming from a relatively well-organized, clean family, her father has some alcohol problems, as well as some gambling-addictions, though. But, they are really supporting her in the studies, which is a key thing in being successful in this kind of social-work.
Santiago is the youngest out of the 11 children of the family. His father was an alcoholic and passed away a few years ago, as well as one of his brothers. One other brother was taken away from the mum by authorities. Santiago even said a few times that his father's death was a liberation for the whole family.
He doesn’t admit, but he is a really devoted child, has a warm heart. He had always been open to us since the beggining.
He is a really handy, skilled guy, whose strength is math, having a really logical thinking. He is always there to help others in need, and because of this, many others look up to him.
His ability to conectrate had improved a lot, he is learning really self-consciously, and has a big role in forming out the team spirit in his class.
Our conclusion is that there is a big need for this Afterschool Program here in Magyarkéc, because it gives the children an opportunity to fill the gap in the background and situation where they come from, which makes the home learning impossible.
We try to give them a chance to catch- up to the other children from the school, who don’t have to struggle with so high social problems and poverty.
