Introduction

Left hand side : William's Home ; Right side : William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare is a famous playwright and poet. He wrote famous literature, like Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and The Tempest. He wrote in different genres, including romantic (Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest), tragedies (Hamlet), and more. Even today, his plays are performed by many across the world. In fact, some of his plays are turned into movies!

William's LIfe : from birth to having kids

William Shakespeare’s life was very exciting, although he experienced many family deaths, he still accomplished a lot, and left a mark on the world, and we are still able to recognize that even 400 years later!

  • In 1557, William’s parents, John Shakespeare and Mary Arden are married, then seven years later, William was born. Most historians believe that William was born on April 23, 1564 because most babies were baptized three days after their birth, and we know that he was baptized on April 26, three days later. When William was just four years old, his father became the mayor of Stratford, where he lived. Unfortunately, there are no official records of William going to school, but some say that he did go to school when he was seven years old, at King’s New School for boys nearby. Unfortunately, there are no official/written records of Shakespeare's life between his baptism and marriage, so many historians wonder what he did, but many believe that he was most likely a clerk ; based on his plays. However, many historians know that at some point, William left home and joined an acting company.
  • Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in 1582, even though she was eight years older than him. That fall, she told her friends that she was pregnant, and that William was the father. As a result, they got married. Their daughter Susanna was christened on May 26, 1583. Unfortunately, nobody knows what they did for a living. During the winter of 1585, the couple had a set of twins, Hamnet and Judith. By 1592, Shakespeare had left his family to go to London, to join the theater life. Later that year, Shakespeare had joined an acting company and wrote plays for them, that we know for sure. Shakespeare generally wrote in three different categories : historical, comedies, and tragedies. When Shakespeare was 32 years old, he applied for a coat of arms, and was accepted, so now he could pass it on to his own son. Sadly, on August 11, 1596, William's one and only son died of unknown cause at the age of 11. To bear with his grief, he wrote a play called Hamlet, and he played the role of Hamlet's father, who was a ghost.

Acomplishments

William Shakespeare accomplished many things, including writing plays, sonnets, opening the Globe Theater, and even performing in the king's court! William wrote plays such as Much Ado about Nothing, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Love Labour's Lost, Macbeth, The Tempest, and many more. His sonnets included Venus and Adonis, and The Rape of Lucrece. These were poems, but also narratives. These poems were both dedicated to the Earl of Southhampton, who was 19 years old. The Globe Theater, opened with the help of the Lord Chamberlain's Men was officially opened in 1599, and was a big success.

Goals

One of William's goals was to earn a coat of arms, since his father applied for one, and was denied. When William was 32, he applied for a coat of arms, and was accepted. William wanted to give it to his son, Hamnet, but his son died of an unknown cause.

Influence

William Shakespeare had a big influence on the theater community. In fact, he created over 1700 common english words. His plays and poems are still performed today, and made into movies. He influenced the community to do what you wanted, and this was shown by marrying young, having typical education, and leaving his family.

My Opinion

In my opinion, William Shakespeare was a brilliant playwright and poet. He was able to take his emotions and transform it into an amazing play or poem. Though he may not have finished Love Labour's Won, he still wrote many plays , that are still known today. I think that more people should learn about William Shakespeare, and his full story, not just his plays.

Conclusion

To summarize, William Shakespeare achieved many things in his life, and even opened a theater, got married, had three kids, wrote many plays and sonnets, and even created over 1700 words that we use today in the english language.
