CONNECTIONS

Focus Statement

My focus will be on the earths surroundings and that all living beings are connected in some way by the earth or god. Always keeping an emotional, spiritual attachment to god this attachment is because of the strings connecting to nails and the other strings and the shape of a circle as the circle can mean so many things but i interpret it as wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness.

Reflection

Restoration can be found/seen in many forms. I originally chose to do it about emotional restoration, that would be based around an after death of a loved one or a type of a relationship issues, which takes time to restore, repair and moving on with life. While working on my imagery ideas I moved towards the focus on Connections.

Circular Wooden Frames

Wooden circular board

Material- String Art

Thread

This image will be on a circular piece of wood. Then i will add nails to rap string around to represent emotional attachment and connection.

Analysis of my focus

I will have a set off circular wooden boards with my picture on it with nails around the edge putting certain string patterns over the image to cover and show certain areas of the body choosing the right colour of string to show specif emotion by the colour of the string example if it were red shows anger. The challenges i will face is the distance between the nails getting them almost perfectly inline, finding someone who can add my picture onto my circular plank of wood, and picking out the right type of string to wrap around the nails which will be very time consuming.

Eva Hesse

Eva Hesse is an American artists to come of age in the immediate aftermath of The Abstract Expressionists. She originally pursued a career in commercial textile design in New York City, but Hesse's practice as an expressionist painter led her to increasingly experiment with industrial and every-day, or "found" materials, such as rope, string, wire, rubber, and fiberglass. Although it's not personally something I am doing I was inspired by the way she could manipulate the string into certain figures and directions to become some sort of structure. Eva's work is interesting but i am focusing on connections and her work is old and new form as my work will be based more on connection and emotion.

Maurizio Anzeri

Maurizio Anzeri makes his portraits by sewing directly into found vintage photographs. His embroidered patterns garnish the figures like elaborate costumes, but also suggest a psychological aura, as if revealing the person’s thoughts or feelings. Maurizio has inspired me by he's fine detail and he has done something very similar to what i would like to achieve and he's meanings from his work is almost the same too, but my artwork will be more about the string and the connection to each nail and linking the string to the emotional attachment to the picture behind the strings.

Artist Statement: My work explores the relationship between us as a society and the earth plus the spiritual aspect of life. Eva Hesse and Maurizio Anzeri have influenced and pushed me in doing thread connections with an earthy theme behind the connections.
