LYRICS

There's something happening here

What it is ain't exactly clear

Reference to the Sunset Strip Curfew Riots

There's a man with a gun over there

Telling me I got to beware

The police are telling them to stand back

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

These riots have gone too far, it's time they stop

There's battle lines being drawn

Nobody's right if everybody's wrong

This is causing problems and none of the people are right about how their fighting

Young people speaking their minds

Getting so much resistance from behind

The people who are simply speaking their mids are not rally being taken seriously

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat

A thousand people in the street

Singing songs and carrying signs

Mostly say, hooray for our side

This is just describing the riots

It's s time we stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep

Into your life it will creep

It starts when you're always afraid

You step out of line, the man come and take you away

People can't be afraid to stand up for what they believe in, just if they take it too far there can be problems

We better stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, hey, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, now, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

Stop, children, what's that sound

Everybody look what's going down

This was the time of the Vietnam war so people automatically associate this song with being an anti war song. Really this song is talking about a riot that took place in West Hollywood due to a bar being closed. This bar was a music bar that the hippies would frequent a lot and it was a place for them to express themselves. The bar was closed because of the neighborhood complaining about the people being too noisy. This led people to protest the closing of the bar and these protests were the inspiration for this song.
