Reinventing High School INAUGURAL EDITION • August 2016

Enabled by the right opportunities, all young minds will be ready to reinvent the world—so we want to empower them by creating an educational experience unlike any other in Indiana and the nation. Opening in August 2017, Purdue Polytechnic High School Indianapolis will develop a new generation of skilled talent.

Welcome! Thanks for joining us on this journey.

Our interactive classes will combine science, technology, engineering and math with English, arts and design.

Our students will pursue career interests through job shadowing, internships and local business inside and outside the classroom.

Our students will earn college credit and in-demand industry credentials to be better prepared for the transition to college or career.

Our partnership with Purdue University is innovative and unique, and we are building strong industry relationships as well. Together, we've set a goal: preparing a diverse student body to succeed in the 21st century economy.

For students who plan to continue on to college, they will have direct pathways to Purdue University.

Scott Bess comes to Purdue Polytechnic High School after serving as president and chief operating officer of Goodwill Education Initiatives. Bess, who received his bachelor's degree in mathematics education from Purdue and a master's in teaching from Marian University, helped grow a single school with 117 students into a school network with more than 3,000 students.

I look forward to continuing to be able to create educational opportunities that make a real difference in the lives of students in Central Indiana.

—Scott Bess

Bess describes his "aha moment"—the conversation when he realized he wanted to join this team:

Do you have an eighth grade student this year? He or she could join our first class! As we work toward our Fall 2017 opening, we will be at community events around the city and would love to meet you and your family.

This is the inaugural edition of Purdue Polytechnic High School's newsletter. As we prepare to create a truly one-of-a-kind high school and to welcome our first 150 ninth grade students, we look forward to sharing our milestones with you during the journey.

Please contact Susie Howard, director of high school initiatives, with your comments, questions, or interests. Thank you!
