Cummins Mellor Employee Feedback - Sept 2019

One Family | Different Journeys | Same Goal

"I’m delighted to share the employee feedback received from our latest survey.
Family is the thread that holds our Family of Businesses together, everyone and everything is important.
As CEO I constantly strive to strengthen the 'Profiting People' philosophy we have running through all our brands and people services across this family of businesses."

- Michelle Mellor, CEO

CULTURE AND COMMUNITY

People should be better for being part of the family business - not just financially, but by being in a safe working space in a solid, open culture.

We are one family on different journeys but always delivering the same goal: 'Profiting People'.

Anya, Recruitment Consultant at CJUK, on her friendships with colleagues:

We often take part in extra social activities together. From climbing the three peaks, to escaping breakout rooms, the Social Commitee are busy making sure there's always things for us to do as a team.

RECOGNISING OUR TEAM

We love to reward and recognise our team for their hard work and ensure they feel appreciated for their valuable contribution to our business.

Annual Celebration Conference

Every April we hold an Annual Celebration Conference where we look back at the financial year, take part in a team-building activity and reward staff for their hard work throughout the year.

Here’s Ayesha, our Customer Experience Team Leader, being awarded Customer Service Champion at our Annual Celebration Conference:

Amy, Senior Consultant at Cummins Mellor Recruitment, winning Sales Person of the Year in 2019

Star of the Month

Every member of the team votes for their ‘Star of the Month’, a colleague who they feel has represented the company values the most through their actions and attitude. We also award a ‘Gold Star of the Quarter’ based on the overall nominations throughout that quarter.

Sometimes we don't need a reason to recognise our staff. Small acts of kindness can make all the difference...

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Here at Cummins Mellor we’re passionate about developing our people. Whether that's through internal training, or external apprenticeships and qualifications, we aim to help our people be the best they can be.

"I first joined Cummins Mellor as an apprentice in 2008, where I completed an NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Business Administration. I thoroughly enjoyed gaining the qualification whilst also getting on-the-job experience. Cummins Mellor provided me with the opportunity and supported my growth and development throughout this time, and still ensure I'm developing everyday - even 11 years later." - Alice Wrigley, Chief Operating Officer

Omair, our Accounts Assistant shares his journey to completing his Level 2 AAT apprenticeship

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Every role here at Cummins Mellor is integral to our success. Ensuring that everybody understands their role and resposibilities, and feel that they are given the chance to perform to the best of their ability, is essential.

Stacie, Senior Account & Business Development Manager at CJUK, talks about the importance of Customer Service in our roles:

We strive for all members of our team to have clarity and autonomy in their role, no matter what their position is or their length of service at Cummins Mellor.

CSR

Here at Cummins Mellor, we want to give back to our community and we're dedicated to organising events to raise funds for local and national charities.

We raised £74 for Hospitality Action in October, a charity who help support hospitality staff get back on their feet again after a setback
We donated two boxes to Blackburn Food Bank for their advent calander initiative in December
We raised £71 for Diabetes UK and we took part in a quiz, testing our knowledge and raising awareness of how diabetes affects the UK
Our Coffee & Cake morning for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust raised £244.
Every year we hold our 'BYZ Quiz', a night where local businesses come together to take part in a quiz, all in the aim of raising money for Blackburn Youth Zone. Blackburn Youth Zone is located directly across from our offices and we're fond supporters of the work they do, helping young people get the skills and resources to find employment. Our 2019 BYZ Quiz raised over £21,000. We’ve raised approximately £70,000 since becoming a patron of Blackburn Youth Zone.

Staff Wellbeing

We believe we are better motivated when our work environment satisfies our economic, social and psychological needs. We are committed to developing and maintaining an environment that promotes the health and wellbeing of the organisation and its employees.

Investors In People - Gold Status

After a rigorous assessment process, Cummins Mellor were accredited Gold Status from the Investors In People in 2017.

Investors in People assessor Carol Davidson said; “My association with Cummins Mellor as their Investors in People Assessor has spanned almost a decade and I was delighted that they have achieved the Gold Award against the more challenging Standard. As a business they have a clear vision of creating better workplaces and a safer society and a strong set of core values that are embedded and integral to how they operate on a day to day basis.”

Family Business of the Year 2019!

Family really is the thread that holds our businesses together. This was recently recognised when we were awarded "Family Business of the Year" at the 2019 BiBAs awards. We were delighted to be rewarded alongside nineteen of the most inspiring Lancashire businesses.

"As much as I appreciate this award and as grateful as I am for it, the greatest reward I’ve ever been given is the simple opportunity to help build a real business family where every single member believes they can really achieve and be better by helping our people realise their true value and amazing potential." - Michelle Mellor, CEO
