Headteacher Comment

In Celebration Assembly this morning, I introduced your children to The Big Ask. The National Children's Commissioner is sharing a survey with the nations to gather feedback from children on their views to help shape their future and the future of children to come. As a school we are happy support this monumental project and will facilitate every child in contributing their views. Below you can see a link to further information on this topic.

I'd like to draw to draw your attention to our graduating scholars of whom we are so proud. They have shown diligence, resilience and a high level of academic thought in completing their University task. There is more information below about our Brilliant scholars' hard work - congratulations!

Enjoy the weekend and see you all on Monday.

Just Brilliant Children

At Greenfields, we like to take every opportunity to challenge our children. For the past two terms, this group of Year Six children have been working with a PhD student from the University of Leicester, learning about philosophy and ethics. In particular, they have been considering the question 'What is Fairness'. As well as attending seminars with their tutor (online like most university students during lockdown), they have also produced 1,000 word dissertations that show their understanding of the concept of fairness in many different ways, and from different points of view.

Each of the children worked extremely hard to complete this huge task, and on Wednesday, they graduated in a ceremony attended by schools involved in the project from across the country. The project is just one organised by The Brilliant Club, a charity that aims to support all children to think about entering University in the future.

Awesome Artists Pastel Printing

In their art lessons this term the children in Year Four/ Five are learning about surrealism, particularly the works of Salvador Dali. Children were amazed at the pastel printing technique which you can see below. This technique brings colour and aspects surrealism to pictures.

Next week we will be using photographs of ourselves so keep a look out.....

Year 4/5

Hello? Hello? Nursery calling!

The youngest children in Greenfields' Nursery have been learning about communicating with others by using the telephones. The children loved the actions of picking up the phone to talk and even made the ringing sound.

Meerkats Enjoy Reading in the Sunshine

This week, Marvellous Meerkats decided to take their reading outside, so that they could make the most of the warm, sunny weather. The children enjoyed reading in the sun, with some children finding cozy and unique places to enjoy a book of their choice, such as up a tree. When Teddy was asked what he likes about reading outside, he said, "You get to read in cool places, like on the grass or up a tree". Reading in the sun was also a hit for Matei, who said, "I just love reading in fresh air, it helps me concentrate".

Downtime Madness….

After a packed week of fantastic learning we just love to spend half an hour letting ourselves go a little and what a better way to do this than taking a box of fancy dress onto the field on a sunny day I just love to see the children not taking themselves too seriously and making one another laugh. #luckyteacher

Class Code and Google Link

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
