Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School
What a very busy and exciting month here at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. With the beginning of a new school year we welcomed Bishop Colli! On Friday September 7th, the Bishop visited Our Lady of Lourdes and was greeted with a fantastic luncheon hosted by the staff to welcome him to our school. After lunch, Bishop Colli was invited to participate in our first prayer service and he even provided a beautiful reflection for the students to think about during the presentation. Following the prayer service, he visited each class to introduce himself on a more personal level and answer any questions the students may have had! The Our Lady of Lourdes Stinger family would like to extend a big thank you to Bishop Colli for his visit and we look forward to his next trip to Manitouwadge!
St. Hilary Catholic School
Red Rock, ON
St. Hilary Catholic School had an excellent turnout at our Open House on Tuesday September 18th. Students and parents visited the classrooms and some students even showed their parents how to use the new IXL math program online! We then enjoyed beef on a bun and went on our annual Terry Fox walk! Ethan and his dad even found time to shoot some hoops on our new basketball court which we love! We raised $463 for cancer research! Thank you to everyone for their generous donations! What a wonderful school community!
St. Edward Catholic School
Nipigon, ON
Mrs. Gainer once again organized our Annual Terry Fox Run at St. Edward School. We look forward to participating in this event every year. The Terry Fox Run is a great way to raise awareness of childhood cancers, and continue the legacy that Terry Fox began. All of our students from JK to Grade 6 took part in this event (The Grade 7 and 8s were playing in the Baseball Tournament). In total, we had close to 100 students take part.
On September 20th, Juliana, Jillian, Sam, Dakota, Emercyn, Dylan, Tanmai and Hrithvik were joined by Mrs. Shermack & Ms. Kuruliak as they sat amongst 20,000 other social justice student changemakers at We Day in Toronto. Working hard to make the world a better place, this group has formed the STMS WE Team! Watch for them this coming school year as they raise awareness for local and global issues such as hunger, education rights, access to clean water - get involved in each campaign!
"There is a space open to all young people who are shameless idealists and are working to create a better world. It’s a space I wish I had when I first took action." - Craig Kielburger
