Saturn by:kelcy revis

Name of Planet - Saturn

The diameter or size of the planet -The diameter at its equator is about 74,898 (120,536 kilometers)

The period or rotation and revolution - It takes saturn 29.4 earth years one revolution around the sun .Clouds in the atmosphere near the equator swirl around fastest, around 10 hours,10 minutes for each rotation. It takes the planet’s deep interior roughly 30-40 minutes longer to complete each rotation

Average distance from the sun -888.2 million miles

Origin of the planet’s name -From the Latin Saturnus, which is of unknown meaning. In Roman mythology he was the father of Jupiter, Juno and others, and was also the god of agriculture. This is also the name of the ringed sixth planet in the solar system.

4 Interesting Facts -

1.The tilt of Saturn’s axis also displays the rings at different angles to observers on Earth. The rings are thin and flat and always lie in the same plane as the planet’s equator.

2.Viewers on Earth see the sunlit northern side of the rings for about 15 years, and then the sunlit southern side for about the next 15 years.

3.Saturn has an enormous atmosphere. It is made mostly of hydrogen, with some helium and smaller amounts of methane, ammonia, and other gases.

4.The best current estimate is that Saturn’s atmosphere is about 73 to 80 percent hydrogen by mass, with all but about 2 percent of the rest being helium. In comparison, hydrogen makes up about 86 percent of Jupiter’s atmosphere and about 71 percent of the Sun.
