Warm-Up Put the comic strip in order according to the Plot diagram

The plot is a series of events in a story. The plot diagram shows the-

  • Exposition
  • Rising Action
  • Climax
  • Falling Action
  • Resolution

The Exposition includes the setting, characters, and conflict.

Setting is the when and where. Ex. In a castle in a far off land.

Characters includes mainly the main or important people in a narrative. Ex. Goldilocks and the Three Bears (They are the characters of the story).

Conflict includes internal and external conflict. An Internal conflict is character vs. self (thoughts, feelings, and morals). An External conflict is character vs. character, character vs. nature, or character vs. social.

The Rising Action are the points that make the conflict a bigger problem.

Ex. After volunteering to take her sister's place in the Hunger Games, Katniss has to manage others' perceptions of her to gain the best strategic advantage possible, then learn to survive inside the arena.

Climax- the turning point of the main character, or the highest point of the conflict.

Ex. When Gaston and the townspeople come to attack the beast, and Belle admits her love for the beast.

Falling Action / Resolution

The falling action and resolution resolve the conflict and ties up any loose ends.

Ex. Cinderella marries Prince Charming and they live happily ever after.

Now it's your turn to complete a plot diagram! You must find either the exposition, rising action, climax, or falling action/resolution. You can use your notes (obviously) to help you.
