What do you get when you book me to photograph your wedding?

Hey, I'm Marc, thanks for stopping by. Before you go any further, you might want to grab a tasty snack, pour yourselves a drink and get cosy on the sofa. I'm about to show you some real weddings to give you an insight into what I can do for your own wedding day. I'll also talk to you about the following:

  • My approach to your wedding
  • Booking a second photographer and do you need one?
  • How much will your wedding photography cost and what does it include?
  • If there is travel involved, how much will it be?
  • How to book and what happens next

My approach to your wedding

Your wedding is very important to me, so much so that I'll become emotionally involved. A lot of time is spent talking to you months in advance. I want to get to know you as well as I can so that I can tell the most amazing wedding story.

By the time your wedding day arrives, we'll have met maybe once, twice or even three times (or sometimes not at all). An engagement session would have taken place and so you'll know exactly what to expect of me. It will help to take any stress or worry away about the photography. I'll arrive, say my hellos and then just blend into your day observing as much as I possibly can. And the result will be the most beautiful and natural moments together. Most of all, I want you to have fun with your close family and friends and not be away from them for hours and hours having photographs taken because let's face it, where's the fun in that?!

If it's not too far and I'm available, sometimes I'll come to your wedding rehearsal which usually only happens in a church. Wherever possible, I'll go and look around your wedding venue prior to the wedding and if you're available, it would be great for you to come along too. I can tell you what I'm seeing and suggest ideas for the day.

Here are some real weddings

Karen & Craig, Kinkell Byre

Karen & Craig planned their wedding all the way from Australia. Karen and her bridesmaids got ready at nearby hotel The Fairmont. The day was so relaxed and the amount of effort they went to with all the details to decorate the Byre was just fabulous. A nice mix of rustic together with wide open spaces to bring in a a variety of textures.

Will & Natalie, Doune Castle & Killearn Village Hall

Will & Natalie live in a converted barn not far from Killearn and was absolutely perfect for capturing all the details of her dress and shoes etc. Doune Castle was an amazing place albeit extremely wet before the ceremony but it dried up afterwards and we were able to explore amongst the tourists. And then a fabulous party was had at Killaern Village Hall working alongside the amazing team that is Three Sisters Bake.

Louise & Marc, Glenfinnan House Hotel

Louise and Marc decided to get married in a place they loved to visit together, inviting only close family and friends. A perfect set up for a very laid back and relaxed day. Exploring the local area was essential and we were spoiled for choice, so many lovely colours and textures. And we were extremely lucky after dinner to get perfect light at the Glenfinnan Monument when the Jacobite steam train crossed the viaduct behind us! Famous of course for appearing in a Harry Potter film.

Kirsten & Paul, Kirknewton Stables

Kirsten and Paul moved to a house in Kirknewton just before their wedding which was filled with lovely light for the details and bridal preparations. The grounds of Kirknewton Stables are so vast, I could have spent the entire day just exploring its beautiful spaces. Kirsten and Paul made a massive effort to decorate the place too and as well as an outdoor ceremony, the day felt so relaxed with a fabulous party to end on.

A second photographer

A lot of weddings I photograph happen at one location - the getting ready, the ceremony and the reception. But sometimes, I'll need to travel to a house then a church and then a venue. And depending on the distance between them, precious time can sometimes be lost whilst I'm travelling to the next location. That's where a second photographer can really add value to your day. We can split up and capture more than one thing at a time including things like the groom getting ready. Not only that, when we're at the same location, we can be shooting several things at once so if I'm busy capturing the two of you somewhere, a second photographer can be taking candids of your guests enjoying the day.

A second photographer costs £250. They are highly experienced professionals and photograph weddings themselves. Sometimes I use photographers who haven't photographed a lot of weddings and who are looking to gain experience, they cost £150. But don't worry, you don't have to decide straight away.

Your investment

Please don't make your decision based on price alone. Of course, budgets are important and they exist for a reason. But remember, your wedding photography is an investment of a lifetime. Think about the photographs you have seen from your grandparents or parents' wedding days and how it made you feel. Then think about the future generations who will look back adoringly at your own wedding photographs. Below you can see what I charge and exactly what it includes.

For a full days wedding photography, it costs £1,395 and includes the following:

  • An engagement session + online gallery to share with friends and family. An engagement session allows us to practice so I can see how you are in front of the camera and you can see exactly how I work. It can take place literally anywhere. Read my online guide, it'll talk you through what's involved and also showcases some real engagement sessions.
  • Full coverage wedding day, usually around 8-10 hours. I'll begin with bridal preparations and finish after the first few dances capturing everything in between.
  • All your wedding images will be provided via a password protected online gallery. During busy periods this will be around 6-8 weeks after the wedding but sooner if I'm able to. You'll be able to share the gallery with friends and family and prints can also be ordered from here if required.
  • All your images will be made available for you to download from your online gallery. They'll be high resolution and you're free to do whatever you want with them, including printing them.
  • Whilst you're waiting for your gallery, I'll share a sneak peek of your wedding on my Facebook Page and Instagram. I'll also provide a selection of the best images in a slideshow for you to view and enjoy.

Travel costs

I only charge for travel if a ferry or flight is required. If accommodation is required I'll let you know. Accommodation, ferries and flights are charged at cost and discussed with you first prior to booking. Any driving I need to do to reach your wedding is all included, I don't add on fuel costs.

How to book & what next?

If you've got this far and are happy with everything you have seen then I'd absolutely love to meet you both and have a chat over a coffee. If that's not possible then we can have a chat on the phone, Skype or FaceTime. Or you may just want to go ahead and book in which case it would be great if you could fill in the enquiry form at the bottom providing as much as you know about your wedding so far (if you haven't already done so). Once you book, here's what will happen next:

  • I'll send you a contract which you can sign digitally using your phone, laptop or desktop computer. You will also be able to pay your booking fee which is £200 and will secure your date in my diary. (The contract is more of a peace of mind agreement and sets out everything you should expect from me and what would happen if I'm unable to photograph your wedding, I wrote a little blog about that once which you can see here).
  • We'll keep in touch via email or if you're fairly local, I'm more than happy to meet you as often as you like for a coffee.
  • The final balance is due eight weeks before your wedding day.
  • Around a week before your wedding I'll ask you to provide a list of the family group shots you would like, e.g. Both of you with the brides parents, with the grooms parents, with both sets of parents and so on. I have a magic number of around 10 shots so that people don't get bored and fed up having their photo taken and also so it doesn't take too much time away from your day.
