Our trip begins with a flight from Edmonton International Airport to Philadelphia. Though approved by husbands and planned for double occupancy, this trip welcomes singles.
Upon arrival in Philadelphia, we rent vehicles and enjoy a delightful drive through the countryside to Lancaster County.
The hustle and bustle of city life is left behind upon our arrival in Lancaster County. This is as busy as it gets! Imagine this view from the hotel.
We unpack and Lancaster County is our home for 5 days. Travelling through the rolling hills of the county, allows us to take in the many delights of the Amish, from their delicious home cooked meals to the handmade treasures.
We watch “Jacob’s Choice,” an emotional, personal story of an Amish family and the resilience of Amish culture through the ages. The Amish Experience Theatre is not an IMAX nor a 3-D movie, though the theatre set consists of actual barn siding, with five multiple projection screens, 1 theatrical lighting, custom-designed mechanical special effects, four-dimensional sound imagery, an original musical score, and unforgettable ghosting effects.
Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum is a living history museum interpreting the heritage and culture of the Pennsylvania German people between 1750-1940. Each year’s Harvest Days family event is the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work. It is Landis Valley’s oldest and largest family event for a reason: It’s just plain old fun, with
demonstrations, crafts, live music and activities, as well as horse-drawn wagon rides. Taste heirloom varieties of apples and watch them become apple butter and cider. Witness wool go from sheep to shawl.
Gettysburg is known for its historic Civil War Battle which turned the fortunes of the Union in the Civil war. See the famous landmarks where Abraham Lincoln made his famous Gettysburg Address.
Dinner at the Dobbin House, established in 1776, the oldest standing structure in the town limits of Gettysburg. Restored into a restaurant and B & B, the building is one of the first stops on the Underground Railroad north of the Mason–Dixon line helping salves reach freedom.
For three days in 1863, Union and Confederate forces met here on the fields, hills and ridges of Gettysburg in the turning-point battle of the American Civil War.
Through preservation efforts, the historic battlefield landscape looks very much like it did in 1863. We won't miss a thing with our private tour guides riding with us in our vehicles.
Our last stop in Pennsylvania is Philadelphia. The birthplace of the United States with it's historic buildings such as Independence Hall, Congress Hall, Liberty Bell, Christs Church, Elfreth's Alley to name a few of the stops of our city tour. See Benjamin Franklin Church, the oldest street in USA and enjoy their famous Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches. Truly a few days to remember and end your fantastic fall trip.
