This Week in Wesley Athletics Week of Sept. 5 - Sept. 11

The Wesley volleyball team WasVICTORIOUS IN All four matches this past weekend at the Catholic University of America Tournament. three of those four wins were three-set sweeps. During the tournament,senior outside hitter tionne Graves-Brown would become Wesley's all-time leader in career kills surpassing Lilia Brekke's mark of 769 kills.

The Wesley women's soccer team finished 2-0 on the week with wins over Immaculata and Rosemont. Janiah Moore had two goals and one assist on the week, while Aleya Cummings scored twice against Rosemont.

The Wesley men's soccer team would earn their first victory on the season on Sunday when they took down Valley Forge, 4-0. Goals were scored by Darius-David Robinson, Luis Cruz, Nicholas Hood and Darren Lewis. In his first collegiate start, freshman goalkeeper Jake Price would earn his first career win and shutout.

The Wesley College men's and women's cross country team opened their 2017 season on Saturday at the Delaware State Hornet Invitational. Both teams were paced by the efforts of Natalie Quigley who led all Wesley runners, placing seventh overall. Anthony Anastasi was the top male finisher for Wesley, finishing 15th overall.

The Wesley College men's golf team opened their 2017-18 season last Sunday at the Swathmore/Neumann Fall Invitational at Rock Manor Golf Club in Wilmington. As a team, the Wolverines finished in a tie for sixth place with a score of 327. Tyler Spielberger paced the Wolverines carding a 77 to finish in a four-way tie for eighth place. Josh Covey and Sean Creel tied for 17th place, shooting an 80 respectively. Kevin Polk rounded out the Wesley golfers with a 90.

The Wesley field hockey team would fall short this past week to Washington College. What looked like a shutout loss would be spoiled by sophomore midfielder Brittany Bishop who would sneak a goal past the Shorewomen with just 14 seconds remaining in the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Krista Salvadore tallied a total 17 saves in her efforts to help her team earn back-to-back victories this past week. She saved all 11 shots that came her way en route to a 1-0 shutout against Immaculata. Of the six saves she made against Rosemont, a shining moment would happen for her as she would come up with a game-defining penalty kick save over Rosemont's Victoria Kasper. All of these efforts would not go unnoticed as the Capital Athletic Conference named her Defensive Player of the Week.

Senior outside hitter Tionne Graves-Brown was named to the Catholic University of America All-Tournament team as she tallied a total of 48 digs, 46 kills, four double-doubles and three service aces. These numbers would help lead her team to four straight victories this past weekend and was named Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
