TIPS AND TRICKS FOR CONQUERING FINALS WEEK
STAY ORGANIZED
Write down all the times and locations of your exams. Also, making study guides in advance can be useful, especially if writing things out helps you retain information.
FIND YOUR PLACE
Go to the library or find a quiet place that works for you to study. Studying from the comfort of your bed isn't always the most productive option- go to a spot that will eliminate distractions!
PREPARATION
Don't wait until the last minute! Start studying for your exams ahead of time so you don't have to cram the night before.
SLEEP!!
It's just as important to receive a healthy amount of sleep during finals week! Studies show that getting enough sleep is directly correlated with better exam performance.
STAY CALM & CONFIDENT
Remind yourself that it will all be okay! Don't let the stress of exams overwhelm you. Take a few deep breaths, and walk into each exam with the confidence to do your very best!
DECEMBER STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Erik Pawelski
Erik Pawelski is a freshman here at Canisius, majoring in Biology (Pre-Med/Health). In his first semester, he's already become involved in many areas on campus, including Campus Ministry, Students for Life, Club Hockey, and being one of our HSA Freshmen Representatives.
Erik says his favorite part about Honors thus far is the community of students in which everyone is helpful and pleasant in passing. On top of this, he enjoys the environment which allows for bouncing ideas off others and being able to see the different insights everyone has on varying topics. He also says he loves the food at all of the Honors events!
Though this is only Erik's first semester, he says that his favorite Honors class has been HON 101 with Dr. Butler, as he loves his infectious enthusiasm- to teach, to know his students more deeply, to create community and dialogue, and his ability to reveal the relevance of the literature he teaches. He says the material (post-1945 American literature) itself is engaging and extremely applicable to 21st living and citizenship.
Since he lives right near Lake Erie, Erik likes to spend most of his spare time in the summer there- on a boat (usually fishing) or on the beach. In contrast, in the winter he devotes his time to hockey, but will also never pass up an opportunity to play baseball or soccer.
Over winter break, Erik hopes to check in with old teachers and friends from high school. He's looking forward to spending quality time over the Holidays with those he's close to.
Thank you, Erik, for your involvement and dedication to making Canisius College and the Honors Program a better place!
