While CH2M offers jobs covering various engineering degrees, I will be working as an environmental engineer. Environmental engineers design solutions to engineering problems that allow the structures to be up to code with environmental regulations and codes. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, environmental engineers get payed $84,560 per year. I would also need to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering.
Location. Location. Location.
While the headquarters of CH2M is in Colorado, the company offers jobs in many different locations. The job listings range from Oregon to the United Kingdom. I would try to find jobs that target lowering pollution output in areas. I learned the skills from college in classes and internships. CH2M also offers internships and co-ops for college students.
College Internships and Hiring
As far as I can tell, CH2M offers jobs year round. Whether I can get a job will depend on what jobs are available at the time and my qualifications. I learned the necessary skills during college but mostly from internships with engineering companies. I would make a bigger impression if the college internships were with CH2M.
I want to be an environmental engineer because I want to make a difference in the world. As an engineer in general I can use apply subjects I enjoy, science and mathematics, to solve critical problems in structures. As an environmental engineer, I can help people affected by pollution and toxins released from industries. I could create solutions to problems that aren’t within the bounds of environmental or safety regulations.
My Road to Environmental Engineering
First I have to be accepted into the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering at OSU. I need to take classes focusing on biology, chemistry, physics, and math, but the main focus is on internships to get job experience. Getting experience is the best way to get a job immediately after college. If I can make an impression in an internship with CH2M, then I will be closer to starting a career in environmental engineering.
