CoVRHA 2021 Winter E-Newsletter Come ride with us!

Letter from the President:

Dear Members - Motto for 2020: DO. NOT. QUIT. A pandemic could NOT stop CoVRHA from making history in 2020! This time last year we were wondering how we could carry on a show season with COVID making its ugly and heart-breaking entrance. We had to cancel our highly attended April Kickoff - with confidence that our Memorial Day show would be open. In fact, the May show was going to be our largest show in attendance we'd ever had. The DAY BEFORE our May Memorial show - we had to cancel due to events beyond our control. At that moment, our board was disheartened, tears were shed, hands were wrung. BUT - we DID.NOT.QUIT. We made COVID precautions part of every show - and with the rest of our season - we had record entries and record fun. Our June shows built with momentum. Then... our July show attendance was the LARGEST in NVRHA history! Our season wrapped up with records - record attendance, more youth participating that ever, more entries in all the divisions than we've ever had, we added AQHA events to enhance the FUN. We could not have done this without a board who knew how to work together, show managers who MADE IT HAPPEN, LATIGO and other event ground staff who worked with us and the exhibitors who believed in us and DID.NOT.QUIT. A HUGE thank you to all who helped put CoVRHA 2020 into the record books! But....this is history. May the rollercoaster of emotions it caused never be repeated.

Welcome to the 2021 Show Season!

We are building on the success of last year, have incredible enthusiasm to put together clinics and shows that will be first rate quality - for YOU - our members! This newsletter is to give you some updates, provide inspiration, celebrate achievements of our amazing exhibitors and inspire YOU as we start the new year. The Chinese Calendar says this is the year of the OX - let's all learn how to use our skills and horses to dominate that OX in 2021! Our slogan is: "COME RIDE WITH US!" .....Welcome to 2021!!! From the CoVRHA Board of Directors

Come Ride with us! The first event of 2021 is the Colorado Kick-off April 17 & 18, and entries will be open March 8!!

We have exciting news!!! Our Mid-Summer Rendezvous show July 11, 12 at Latigo will also be an AQHA VRH and double-judged Ranch Riding special event!!!

Also new this year - We will be able to take credit-card payment at the time of check-in at the show. This is an added convenience for you.

Our National Finals qualification only requires participation in any TWO CoVRHA or NVRHA events across the country. See the full schedule here and visit the NVRHA website for updates

What are the NVRHA Amateur-level divisions? Youth Novice, Youth Limited, Youth Amateur, in the Non-Pro: Novice, Limited, Amateur, and Open. You can also enter Open a la carte if you just want to try one or some of our classes, but not yet ready to go in all 5 of the classes.

We want riders to learn and compete at a pace they are comfortable with.

CoVRHA offers great prizes for all divisions. We also have a ton of fun!

Here's a checklist of what to prepare for to get ready to start the new CoVRHA show year:

Renew your memberships in CoVRHA and NVRHA: You must show your card as proof of membership when you pick up your entry packet at each show

Are you and your horse brand new to CoVRHA and NVRHA events? If so, at the first event you MUST ride in the clinic in order to be classified by the clinicians before you can enter a division in the competition!

Enter clinics early! Clinic spots in particular fill up fast. We keep the ratio of spots/clinician low so quality of learning is high. We typically have entries open 30 days prior to the event and this can be done online at:

Also - there are exciting things going on with our national organization: NVRHA and NRSHA!

NVRHA updates:

Look for the 2021 Rundown Magazine coming to you in the Spring of 2021. This issue will be jam-packed with highlights from the 2020 show season.

Be sure to renew your membership now for the 2020 show season. Renew early and receive updates throughout the year!

Listen Up! 2021 NVRHA Rule Change Update and Education corner....

Novice riders - check your scoresheets after your first two shows! Find a board member, veteran rider or trainer to help you understand the importance of this. In a nutshell - Novice riders- if your average performance score after 2 shows is 230 or higher - you will be automatically bumped up to Limited division. National award placement points don't transfer! To help with this- we are providing an education sheet on this rule attached to all Novice rider scoresheets at the end of the show.

National Year End Awards tie breaker notice for 2021:

In the event of a tie in placement points for year-end awards, the tie breaker will be determined as follows - the 5 scores earned in Working Ranch will be noted, the highest and the lowest score will be eliminated, and the 3 remaining scores will be averaged to determine the winner. If less than 5 events are required for Year End Awards - all scores earned in Working Ranch will be totaled and average score will determine the winner.

Fortunately we have a great mix of seasoned riders, trainers and staff at CoVRHA to help explain rules, points, year-end awards. Come grab one of us - we're a friendly bunch and all started out by having lots of questions too.
