Italy Summer 2018 / June 1 - July 14

About the Program

Study in Italy this summer, an educational experience of a lifetime. Experience the renaissance in a world center for art, architecture and philosophy. During our time together we will live in Florence, Rome and Sicily and together we will explore religion, immigration, human rights, sex and gender, politics, nationalism through sports, history, art and culture. The houses of worship from 3 major religions in Italy including cathedrals, synagogues and mosques will be our classroom, the Tuscan countryside and vineyards our playground, and the exquisite beaches our leisure. We will have wine tasting and a cooking class in studying Italian cuisine, ride bikes through Tuscany in studying sports and recreation, and hike the ancient trails of Cinque Terre and so much more. We will become global citizens living in Italy not mere students touring Rome. To do this, we will volunteer at refugee welcome centers in Florence, Rome, Naples and Sicily and hear firsthand from people fleeing war, persecution, and poverty their struggle to make a new life in Italy. Students will also have opportunities to explore Italy and other parts of Europe during their free time.

Through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences Italy study program, you can earn 6 credits exploring immigration, religion, gender and sex, sports, and politics.

Why I Studied Abroad

"My semester abroad was by far my favorite semester at CSUF. I created friendships and memories with people I will always remember. At first the thought of being in a foreign country by myself was scary, but once I was there it did not seem scary. While studying abroad, I was able to visit different parts of Italy and different countries in Europe. But I think the overall best part of studying abroad in Italy, was the fact that I had an excuse to eat spaghetti, pizza, and gelato everyday!"
