The future of banking takes center stage at The Atlantic Festival U.S. Bank Chief Digital Officer Derek White spoke at the annual event in Washington, D.C.

Hosted by The Atlantic magazine, the annual event brings together leaders in business, politics, technology and the arts to “grapple with the most consequential issues of our time.” This year, the wide-ranging list of speakers included U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, musicians Yo-Yo Ma and Questlove, Disney CEO Bob Iger, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, Girl Scouts CEO Sylvia Acevedo and many others.

Earlier this year, U.S. Bank named Derek White as our first-ever chief digital officer as we continue to accelerate efforts to leverage digital to create one amazing experience for our customers. At the festival, Derek synthesized trends in human behavior from around the world and how that impacts the future of banking and commerce.

The successful business models of the future center on being a part of – and providing value at – the moment humans interact with technology

Because so many of the issues discussed at The Atlantic Festival directly impact the lives of our customers and employees, U.S. Bank served as an underwriter of the festival for the third straight year.

U.S. Bank Chief Ethics Officer Katie Lawler and Chief Social Responsibility Officer Reba Dominski joined Derek in a roundtable discussion during the festival about ethics in artificial intelligence. The conversations built on a discussion last year that focused on institutional trust.

Also this year, U.S. Bank hosted festival attendees throughout the week at a "command center" designed to help educate consumers and business leaders about the latest in cyber security. The speakeasy-type atmosphere was complete with an interactive quiz about worldwide cyber trends and issues that had attendees buzzing.
