WESLEYAN MEN'S GOLF 2019-20 SEASON PREVIEW

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men’s golf team opens its 2019-20 season this Saturday, Sept. 7 with the two-day Bill Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College at the Indian Hills Country Club. The Cardinals’ fall schedule will also feature the Duke Nelson Tournament hosted by Middlebury (9/14 –9/15), the Williams Fall Invitational hosted by Williams (9/21 – 9/22), and the NESCAC Championship Qualifier hosted by Tufts (9/28 – 9/29).

The Cardinals’ 2019-20 roster consists of seven returners (two graduate students, two seniors, two juniors, one sophomore) and four newcomers, as head coach Jeff Gilarde welcomes a talented freshmen class.

Cate made an immediate impact for the Cardinals as a freshman last season and will look to build off that as he enters his sophomore campaign. In his first year with the program, Cate led Wesleyan in scoring three times and shot a season-low 150 (75-75) at the NESCAC Championship Qualifier.

head coach jeff gilarde

Jeff Gilarde enters his sixth season as head coach of the Wesleyan golf program. He began as an assistant in 2003, was elevated to associate head coach in 2008, was named co-head coach in the fall of 2009, and then became head coach starting in 2014-15. He has also been the Director of Scientific Imaging in the Biology department at Wesleyan since 1984.
