We Like Big Books, And We Cannot Lie. christie Scarborough & Ren Jones

These books made us who we are:

"Harry Potter" by J.K. Rowling is the main reason Christie started reading. Her mother used to read the series to her before bedtime, and that's when she discovered books weren't all that bad. She's not super into writing, but she does love reading fantasy novels.
“Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of both influencing injury, and remedying it.” –The Deathly Hallows
Ren's favorite book series of books growing up was "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snicket. In fact, she still maintains she's a long lost Baudelaire sibling. She read them again as a big kid when life wasn't exactly going her way. Turns out, she loves them even more now.
“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like.” — The Slippery Slope

"[Teachers] can learn about their communities by talking to students and learning their interests." -Christie

These Songs make us feel like humans, even when we don't want to:

Christie and Ren are both OBSESSED with music, especially music of the 80s variety. Christie's favorite band is Guns N' Roses because she thinks they have the best lyrics of all the "big hair" bands. In other words, "Patience" is a dang good song.

Pause for Spotify... Thanks firewall.

Ren's favorite band is Pavement because their song lyrics made her cry during a concert her dad took her to when she was 13. She's embarrassed by this, but it did happen. If you want your heart to melt, Ren suggests "Grounded."

Spotify break!

SO... HOW IS WRITING RELEVANT?

Because Christie and Ren are in 2 completely different stages of life and still found out that they're basically the same person. (Long live Warped Tour!) Both our book series are beloved because everybody else on the planet read them too. You can talk about "Harry Potter" or "A Series of Unfortunate Events" with just about anyone, and we guarantee his or her face will light up. Songs and books capture feelings, so you're never alone when you're listening or reading (even if you are physically alone) because you're actually in the company of a little piece of somebody else's soul.

IN THE WORDS OF CHRISTIE, "YOUR COMMUNITY IS MORE PEOPLE THAN YOU THINK IT IS."

TURNS OUT YOU CAN BE A PART OF A COMMUNITY WITH YOUR EARPHONES IN WHILE YOU'RE READING ON THE BUS!
