The Seasons in Fiber

A collection of works relating to the seasons of the year.

Winter, Embroidery Hoop, various yarns

Winter is a circular weaving created with varying colors that remind me of my leafless birch trees in my back yard during the winter. I used a limited color palate and tried to add a lot of texture with different yarns and weaving patterns.

Spring: wool roving, pin backs

Spring was created using the wet felting technique. I made multiple layers of flower shapes for the white/pink and purple one. They were then joined together and embellished with a felted bead. The purple flower is just a single layer, but still embellished with a felted bead. Both pieces have a pin back attached so they can be worn as a brooch.

Summer: Wool fibers, embroidery floss

Summer is another wet felted piece. This design is different from the flower pins in that many layers of felt were applied, and done in a more painterly manner. I choose colors that reminded me of a warm summer day. I also added some embroidery stitches to add more texture and definition.

Fall, tree branch, various yarns

This nature/branch weaving rounds out my season series with Fall. This piece was done using a tree branch with an interesting structure. It was warped and then woven with a variety of fall colored and textured yarn.
