The New Normal The 2020-2021 pandemic school year

“I have been reading a book about the HMS Endurance and how it got stuck in ice, and broke apart. The crew had to survive on an ice floe for months. A line in the book really hit me practically describing my thoughts of school right now. I don’t have the exact line though, it was from a crewmembers journal: everything has been so similar, everyone tries to find ways to pass the time.”- “Nothing changes, you stay in the same seat, and a teacher comes in and leaves, that’s the entire day.” - “it’s melancholy and blan”

Air filters are placed all around the school to help filter germs out of the air. It is for safety, not comfort purposes. “They are too loud”-Student

Everyone wears a mask all day unless you are eating or drinking.

An 8 year old student going to school in suburban Atlanta said this about pickup and drop-off-“Every kid has a number and they call a number and then your number gets called. You go to the bus and you go to distant seats.”
