The glucose levels will rise after eating something and trigger the pancreas to release a hormone into the bloodstream. Type 1 patients cant produce insulin so it will be hard for them. The glucose can not make there way through the cell membrane without insulin so they have to give themselves shot of a certain amount of insulin of the amount of food they have ate that day . It then will allow the glucose to enter the bloodstream so their blood sugar levels will stay normal so they can cells can function.

Dietary Guidelines

Diabetes Type 1 have to watch what they eat a lot because they have to physically put in the certain amount of insulin. Type 1 diabetic should be provided with up to 45-65% of carbohydrates of the total calories. Fats should be 25-35% of the daily calories, the limit saturated fat should be less then 7% and trans-fats should be less then 1%. A good plate for a diabetic is 1/4 of protein, 1/4 of starch,1/2 of non starchy vegetables. here are some things that are good for the diet:

  • Beans
  • Dark green leafy vegetables
  • Citrus fruit
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Berries
  • Tomatoes
  • Fish high in omega-3 fatty acids (like salmon)
  • Whole grains
  • Nuts
  • Fat-free yogurt and milk

How do you Monitor Blood Sugar Daily and Long Term?

  1. After washing your hands, insert a test strip into your meter.
  2. Use your lancing device on the side of your fingertip to get a drop of blood.
  3. Touch and hold the edge of the test strip to the drop of blood, and wait for the result.
  4. Your blood glucose level will appear on the meter's display.

Diabetics do this because do they can check there levels on blood sugar is too high or too low. A diabetic A1C should be 7%. Blood Glucose Before a meal it should be 80-130 mg/dl and into 1-2 hours the beginning of the meal it should be less then 180 mg/dl.

Life style and Exercise

A doctor wants you to keep track of you sugar levels before and after you exercise. Stay hydrated while you exercise because it can affect you blood sugar levels. While you are exercising be sure to have a little bag with some candy or little snack in case you blood sugar gets too low . Here are some Aerobic exercises that are good for a diabetic

  • Walking
  • Jogging/Running
  • Tennis
  • Basketball
  • Swimming
  • Biking

Aim to get around 30 minutes of the exercises most days of the week. It helps you keep motivated and keep going. Another form of exercising that is good like strengthening training and flexibility training . Doctors would like you to stick with these because it will make you body more efficient at using its insulin and glucose.

Nick Jonas

Nick Jonas is a lead singer and guitarist for the Jonas Brothers . He was born on September 16 , 1992 . Nick Jonas was diagnosed with type one diabetes on November 16, 2005. In just two weeks he dropped 15 pounds and started to drink water excessively. Nick didn't know that he had diabetes at first when all that happen. Nick never let the diabetes take control of him . His family and brothers helped him control him and what he eats .
