Marches The CIVIl rights movement

Marches have been used in the pasts and they may be used in the future. Some marches include March on Washington, Million Man March, and also The Poor People March was supposed to happen on April 22 1968 but it was post poned because on April 4 Martin Luther King JR. was assasinated. The March happened on May 12 1968

This speech happened on August 28 1968 Before the March on Washington

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

MARCH ON WASHINGTON

This march happened on August 28 1963 and 300,000 to 400,000 people showed up that day to show their support for this cause. The march was supporting jobs for the negro community.

This video was taken in 1963 when the March on Washington was happening. Over 200,000 people were in this march from the north, south, east, and west.

This is one of the posters for the Poor People March 1968.

We, too

I was home

In Lincoln Heights

Named for Abraham

As many other small black

Communities are

Only 20 years old

Not cowardly

I had picketed Rich’s

Department Store in Knoxville

I sat in with Fisk University

In Nashville

But not all that Brave

Mommy didn’t want

Me to go

Neither did my father and I wondered

Would it matter

50 years later I know

It did

We watched

We prayed

We, too, were

inspired

I didn’t go

I stayed home

And reminded myself:

We also serve

Who sit

And Wait

This poem was created by Nikki Gioviani and it is showing how her parents did not want her to participate in the March but she did it and 50 years later she knew that she had something to do with the Jim Crow laws being banned.

This photo was taken in 1963 during the million man march.
