Santorini, Greece Goodbye santorini

It was time to say our goodbyes to Santorini... A place we will never forget and hopefully one day return to in the future. But not without our last special Santorini breakfast with the finale being a chocolate ice cream biscuit!

We still had the opportunity to visit the archaeological site of Akrotiri where life came to an abrupt halt in the flourishing prehistoric city during the final quarter of the 17th c BC, when its inhabitants abandoned it due to earthquakes and the enormous volcanic eruption that followed. The volcanic material that covered the city has provided excellent protection for the buildings and their contents.

We then returned from the site and visited the Museum of Prehistoric Thera to complete our history lesson, before it was soon time to head for the airport and for Athens, but not without a Gyros and Gelato.

Should I mention that we missed the last bus to the airport? Oh well, there is always plan B - Taxi!
