Summer 2021 Update #5

Good afternoon Wheeler Summer Families,

Happy First Day of April! With spring in effect, we are one month closer to camp! Recently the State of MA launched Recreational Camps & Programs Health and Safety Standards for Reopening. We are diligently working to build our camp policies and procedures around this addendum to the current Standards for Recreational Camps which we are licensed under.

We will continue to navigate how we will apply these standards to our procedures and protocols for this summer. Some of the questions we will be answering over the next month: What will the swim/pool portion of camp look like? Will we be able to safely offer extended care options? What drop-off and pick-up procedures will we need to have in place? Please stay tuned as this information will be communicated at the end of April/beginning of May.

Camp sessions are filling up and some of our most popular programs have closed. Please understand that while we would love to accommodate everyone, all summer long, we do have to restrict our capacity as outlined in our guidance. We encourage you to still check out registration to see if anything available fits your schedule this summer if you haven’t already.

Age Parameters & Registration: We have had a few questions about ages, grade levels and appropriate groupings for this summer! Our online registration system is date sensitive and takes birthdays into consideration when showing you what camps are available for your child(ren). What we do recommend is that your child is grouped with children in their same rising grade-level vs. age, in order to provide the best developmentally appropriate camp experience! Please see the suggested groupings below:

  • Early Learning Camp (3-4) Rising Nursery/Rising PreK
  • Lower Camp (5-6) Rising Kindergarten/Rising First Grade
  • Middle Camp (7-9) Rising First Second/Rising Third/Rising Fourth
  • Upper Camp (10-12) Rising Fifth/Rising Sixth/Rising Seventh
  • Senior Camp (13-15) Rising Eighth/ Rising Ninth

Friend Requests: Thanks so much for reaching out with friend requests. We have received more requests this year than in previous years and will do our best to accommodate. We do want to reiterate that building lasting friendships is at the heart of Wheeler Summer! Year after year we see groups of children start off as acquaintances and leave as friends. We want to assure you that our staff is prepared to welcome your child(ren) to camp this summer and to help guide and foster friendships among campers. We are very excited about the two-week sessions this year and feel that will help strengthen friendships among the groups and that campers will be able to spend more time with their new friends!

Health Paperwork: All campers are required to submit updated health paperwork to include the most recent physical (within the last 18 months prior to end of camp Aug. 20) and updated immunization reports. Simply scan and email to SummerCamp@Wheelerschool.org before the start of camp on June 14th.
