POPCOM XII celebrates International Men’s Day, conducts KATROPA session

November 19 of every year is being observed as the International Men's Day. In the Philippines, the theme for this year's International Men's Day Celebration is "Ang Tunay na KATROPA, Maalaga Sa Pamilya"

In line with the celebration of International Men’s Day, the Commission on Population and Development, in partnership with the City Population Management Office (CPMO) of General Santos City, conducted a KATROPA session among the members of the General Santos City Men’s Organization last November 18-19, 2021 at Tierra Montana Hotel, General Santos City. A total of 30 participants attended the said activity.

With the theme, "Ang Tunay na KATROPA, Maalaga Sa Pamilya", the celebration promoted the agency’s male involvement strategy which is the Kalalakihang Tapat sa Responsibilidad at Obligasyon Sa Pamilya (KATROPA). The campaign seeks to transform outdated gender norms, instill a progressive attitude, teach relevant skills among the male population and engage them as partners and advocates of RPFP. It also highlights the important roles of men in the development of the well-being of their families, communities and the entire nation in general.

CPMO General Santos wants to equip the members of the Gensan Men’s Organization with the right knowledge, understanding, attitude and Skills on Gender and Development (GAD) concepts as well as reproductive health and maternal and child health and nutrition so they can be more effective and efficient fathers and partners. This campaign is one of POPCOM XII’s initiative for male involvement in the community and in their family for a more empowered SOCCSKSARGEN Family.

Through this activity, POPCOM XII and CPMO Gensan hopes that the participants will be the champions in encouraging their fellow men in being more responsible as well as become ambassadors in ending the violence against women and children.

With the conduct of KATROPA Session, POPCOM XII aims to encourage more male involvement especially that they play a very important role in the empowerment of women.

The 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) is also being observed this month from November 25, 2021 to December 12, 2021. Pursuant to Proclamation No. 1172, Series of 2006, November 25 to December 12 of every year is declared as the “18 Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW)” and Republic Act No. 10398, Series of 2012 declares November 25 of every year as the “National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children.” Men also have an important role in this campaign.
