Amity Elementary School April 2021

Parent Information

First Grade Return to Full Time

On March 22, 2021, the Oregon Department of Education revised the Ready Schools, Safe Learners (RSSL) Guidance to align with the 3-foot physical distancing recommendation from the CDC. With that recommendation and our small class sizes, I am happy to let you know that all first-grade students will have the opportunity to return to school full time, every day beginning on April 12th. Please note that students may continue with Comprehensive Distance Learning if that is their family’s choice.

Amity Elementary School staff prioritizes the health of our students, families, and staff. We will follow the health and safety guidelines outlined in the RSSL Guidance. Those guidelines include wearing masks, hand washing/sanitizing, using individual supplies, staggering arrivals and dismissals, scheduling recess, and disinfecting frequently used surfaces along with other protocols as noted in the Hybrid plan.

The 6-foot physical distance guideline remains at lunch time. During lunch, students will spread out to the recommended 6-foot distance and half will eat at their desks and half will “picnic” on tablecloths on the floor. The kids who get to “picnic” will alternate weekly. Anytime students move about the classroom during lunch time, they will be asked to put their masks back in place.

Drop off (8:05) and pick up (2:45) times will remain the same. Siblings may be dropped off with older brothers and sisters. Older brothers and sisters may be picked up with younger siblings. Please be aware it might take a bit longer to move through the line.

I understand that sending your child back to school full time might be stressful for some families. Please let me know if you would like to discuss any of the safety protocols we have in place. We are truly pleased to have our first-grade students back full time.

Counselor Corner

This month the Very Important Principle we are focusing on is fairness. We define fairness as being reasonable and decent in how we treat others. We shared with the students that being fair does not always mean equal. For example, if one students gets a band-aid for a cut, not all students have to receive a band-aid to make it fair. Not all kids need the same tools to succeed. We give each student what they need to be successful and it may not be the same thing. Being fair means we do what we can for everyone so they can succeed, but what they need may be different.
