Newsletter 5th SEPTEMBER 2019

Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Orana, Fakalafa lahi atu, Namaste, Ni sa bula vinaka, Konichiwa

What an action packed month we’ve just had at Chapel Downs. The students and teaching team all loved maths week and it was wonderful to share our maths programme during our open morning.

This term our senior students have been investigating animals and they enjoyed an exciting trip to the Auckland Zoo. The children all behaved brilliantly and were a real credit to Chapel Downs. The staff at Auckland Zoo were amazed by our students wonderful manners.

In the next three weeks the Junior School inquiry focus will be the Children’s Pop Up Museum. This is an opportunity for the children to share their interests, special objects or hobbies, such as club sports or dance and music.

It would be great if the children could bring in an object that is related to their interest. Teachers will look after any items brought in and keep them safe. If possible, please write your child’s name on the item.

On the 26th of September we will be inviting parents to come and see our museums. More information about this will be sent out closer to the date.

Vector EPro8

Last month we sent two teams to represent Chapel Downs in the Vector EPro8 Challenge. The students spent the day on Science, Technology, and Engineering problem solving challenges competing against schools from throughout Auckland. Our students displayed outstanding team work, investigating skills and perseverance throughout the day.

Thank you for your wonderful support at last months sausage sizzle. With your support we were able to raise $1342 for our Year 6 camp. A huge thanks to Hellers who provided us with the sausages

Full School Assembly

On Friday the 13th September we are holding our last full school assembly for term 3. Our amazing Chapel Downs School Kapa Haka group will perform and our house captains will lead the new house chants. The ukulele will play as we enter the hall for assembly.

Please feel free to pop along and help us celebrate student sucess.

It was wonderful to see so many parents and whanau supporting our children and participating in our daily maths programme. The children really loved sharing their learning and they certainly are very proud to have visitors in their classrooms.

Camp Adair

This month all of our Year 6 students will experience a three day camp as part of our annual Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) programme. EOTC programmes provide students with access to hands-on experiences that are not available inside the classroom.

Dropping Children Off

Dropping children off as close to the school gate as possible may be convenient for you, but can cost another family a lifetime of pain and suffering. All our children deserve the chance to grow up and experience life to it’s fullest.

Parking restrictions are in place near Chapel Downs for a reason. They protect our communities’ children.

 Always observe all parking restrictions near our school.

 Do not park across the drive ways or on yellow lines

 Always use the school patrol crossing

 Choose safety over convenience at all times

 Walk to and from school with your children when possible

Because of increased traffic at our Chapel Road pick up zone we have decided to close the Chapel Road entry from 3pm till 3.15pm. Thanks for your support.
