Your Elementary Library Destiny Home Page is a professionally created medium which houses numerous materials which have been collected to support classroom projects. Examples of resources include multiple databases which feature professionally created materials, OverDrive eResources and tutorials. Why reinvent the wheel when it comes to locating information for a research project? Many elementary school project topics have viable resources within our CSD purchased databases. This tutorial was created to help you identify which resources may work best for your well-researched projects. Some of the databases include website hyperlink recommendations to link to additional professionally created websites. Take a minute to scroll through the informational and examine these valuable resources.

Databases support curricular projects with current, professionally created and selected materials.

Database resources are featured in this next section. The school subscribes to databases which cover a variety of curricular topics such as art, biography, exploration, citation creation, culture, current events, digital citizenship, eBooks, geography, government, health, general reference content, language, language arts, music, science, social studies, etc. Usernames and passwords are available from your librarian.

NOTE: Check the footers at the bottom of the database page as many of them have an About Us and Citation hyperlink with tutorials on navigation of the database, lesson plan ideas and how to properly cite use.

Access PA POWER Library utilizes many of the same databases as POWER Kids Library Resources. The main difference is Access PA POWER Library Resources can be utilized outside of the school setting with a public library card. POWER Kids Library Resources are accessible from school.

POWER Kids Library: ACCESS PA Books, Movies & More Search: Reserve library materials which satisfy your research or reading needs. Must have a public library card to use this service from home. The lending period is based upon the policies of the lending facility. Please reserve materials at least two weeks prior to needing the loaned material as it takes time to identify libraries which have the resource available for lending. Materials can also be reserved through the library at school.

Use this to locate books, movies and other library materials of interest. Please have a specific title, author, and topic to make requests. Library requests a minimum of at least a two week notice to try to locate materials.

POWER Kids Library: Ben's Guide To the U.S. Government: Learning Adventures, Games & More: "Ben's Guide to the U.S. Government, a service of the Government Publishing Office (GPO), is designed to inform students, parents, and educators about the Federal Government, which issues the publications and information products disseminated by the GPO’s Federal Depository Library Program. It is our hope that Ben’s Guide to the U.S. Government fulfills that role."

POWER Kids Library: BookFLIX: "Scholastic BookFlix is an online literacy resource that pairs classic video storybooks from Weston Woods with related nonfiction eBooks from Scholastic to build a love of reading and learning. The engaging way to link fact and fiction, BookFlix reinforces early reading skills and introduces children to a world of knowledge and exploration."

POWER Kids Library: CyberSmarts: Staying Safe Online: "CyberSmarts: Staying Safe Online, a unique collection of five Interactive eBooks, gives students hands-on experience in navigating the online world in a safe, controlled environment. Titles include: Stopping Cyberbullying, Avoiding Predators Online, Protecting Your Privacy Online, Using Social Networks and Playing Games Online. Created for elementary students, the guided simulations safely teach users to: Create a username, choose an avatar, chat, send messages and emails, create profiles and receive and respond to “friend” invitations. Easy to use with a group or individually, these Interactive eBooks can be projected on a whiteboard or viewed on individual student computers. Instructional tools include lesson plans, reproducibles, and research prompts."

POWER Kids Library: EBSCO eBooks: "This e-resource provides access to over 16,000 eBooks from the world's leading publishers across all major subject areas. Perform full-text searches of a single eBook, search thousands of volumes simultaneously, browse topic categories, or read eBooks directly online. Additionally, you may download selected eBooks to portable devices."

Professional Development readings are also available for teachers.

POWER PA Kids: Library Of Congress: Designed for families and children to explore curiosities together. Many links to professionally created websites on topics of educational interest. Resource for primary documents, eBooks, current events, historical events, etc. Very family friendly resource.
