Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Friends,
I hope that You, your families and friends are all keeping safe and well.
I write this with a heavy heart as I look back over the past three years when You, our Year 9 students joined us back in August 2017.
They say that “time flies when you are having fun” and there has certainly been plenty of fun times both in college and on numerous trips and residentials. As a student body I have enjoyed the past three years with you, either as your class teacher or over the past two years as your Head of School.
Whilst I am disappointed that we won’t be able to meet together before you make your move to upper school, I am also filled with excitement for you as you begin the next stage of your adventure in education and in life.
Please stay positive and continue to make your parents and carers, teachers and most importantly yourselves proud.
As we near the end of term it is important to remain focussed on your home learning in all your subjects. Your subject teachers have emailed clear instructions and deadlines for the work to be completed over the next couple of weeks. Your hard work now will really help you when you move up to Year 10.
We will shortly be setting up virtual 'drop in' sessions for each curriculum area. This will be an opportunity to ask any questions or seek guidance on how to complete your work.
Your teachers love to receive work emailed to them, including videos and photos of tasks you have completed. Please continue to send these in and let us know if you are happy for the work to be posted on Twitter.
As with previous years we are working with Revolution Shirts to provide leavers hoodies for our Year 9 students.
These are now available to purchase on Parent Pay priced £10.50 each. You will see you can choose the size you wish to purchase, the measurements are provided so you can select the correct size.
Please be aware that the name used on the hoodies will be your child's legal name.
All orders must be placed by 9am Tuesday 23 June 2020.
Hopefully the hoodies will be delivered to school before the end of term, unfortunately at this time we are unable to confirm this.
We will be intouch once we have received the delivery to arrange how to get the hoodie to you.
This is usually a time of excitement and anticipation in lead up to the end of term and the Year 9 Prom. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus and government guidelines it is impossible for us to have a prom this year. Whilst, I know many of you will be extremely disappointed, I know that as young people you will appreciate that this decision has not been taken lightly however there really is no option. Your teacher’s are also disappointed as they enjoy the night of celebrations so you must remember to send us photographs of your Year 11 Prom – it will be here before you know it!
Things are obviously a little different for our Year 9 students this year. However, we still believe it is important to recognise and reward students for their contribution to Ibstock Community College over the last 3 years. Currently, your teachers are voting for the winners of the college awards which are:
JV Measures Award
Graham Harbot Student of the Year
Rachel Graveson Triumph through Adverity
Most Improved Student
Students Student of the Year
All winners will receive their trophies and we will publish the final list on the website and in our end of term newsletter.
Good luck to everyone.
With sustainability in mind I would like to encourage you to pass previously worn uniform on within the community whilst adhering to current Covid 19 restrictions.
Transition to Ashby School
As the majority of Year 9 students are moving on to Ashby School please ensure that you are checking their website regularly for updated information.
Your form tutors at Ibstock will also pass on information to you via your school email as and when we receive it and you can also find transition information on our website:
Please be reassured that your teachers, Mrs Roden and Miss Foster are in contact with all upper schools to ensure that your transition is a successful one.
Farewell, good luck and thank you!
Au revoir, bonne chance et merci beaucoup.
Please ensure you have activated your account and keep your child's information upto date. If you have not received an activation email please contact email@example.com
Please take time to look through each tab and update information as required. It is especially important to ensure contact details are up to date, consent information is correct and any medical details or dietary needs are recorded accurately.
We use this information in school and when preparing for extra curricular activities or trips it is therefore very important you keep this information up to date.
Contacting the college
Please do not telephone the college and leave a voicemail as we are not regularly in college to listen to them.
