Ishanga African elephant

Ishanga was born on November 10, 2009. When she was rescued, she was one year old and was brought to an elephant orphanage.

Ishanga was literally saved from the jaws of death. She was being attacked by a lion when a rescue team came to save her. When they got to her, the team realized that Ishanga was in very bad shape and had been away from her mother for a couple of days. She suffers from nightmares because of the traumatic event.

Ishanga is now living in an orphanage with other orphans and wild elephants. The rescue team found out that she was alone because her mother was killed by a poacher just days before she got attacked by the lion. She has made many friends in her orphanage and was recently moved to another that is home to older elephants.
