Miracle on ice was an ice hockey game played between the Soviet union, and the United States of America.

This game was played at Madison Square garden on February 22, 1980.

This game was played at the 1980 winter Olympics in lake placid, New York.

This event impacted history because the United States of America beat the powerhouse Soviet Union team, Who were playing together for multiple years. 

At the time the United States was using college players as an Olympic team. The Soviet union was using players that were playing together for multiple years. A couple years after the 1980 Olympics they started to use professional hockey players

This was a meaningful event because at the time tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States of America or at an all-time high.
