New Mexico Highlands University understands your college experience is an important step in your future. That’s why our Career Services Office is here for you from day one. We want you to succeed in college and after graduation, so we have the tools to help begin your career. Career Services provides a variety of free services to all New Mexico Highlands University students and graduates in developing effective job search skills, career planning, and locating employment opportunities including summer internships and research programs, campus employment, part-time jobs and career employment.

Additionally, Career Services also hosts career fairs each semester with more than 60 participating employers. Past employers have included agencies such as Los Alamos National Laboratory, the U.S. Forest Service, and FBI, large corporate employers like Verizon, and nonprofits like Youth Shelter & Family Services.

A place like no other

What does a 160-year-old fort have in common with great skiing? Or world-class art and music have in common with three state parks? They’re all in New Mexico Highlands University’s backyard. Northern New Mexico is truly a unique location. On a short drive away from campus, you can experience remote villages ignored by time, slopes that will invigorate all levels of skiers and snowboarders, and historic and cultural sites unlike any in the world.

With New Mexico Highlands University’s new Outdoor Recreation Center, you can borrow tents, mountain bikes, kayaks and much more to explore everything Northern New Mexico has to offer.

New Mexico Highlands University also hosts a variety of concerts and entertainment events throughout the year, and local businesses offer students free movies, bowling and other events.

Living on campus

Being a part of a residence hall community is a great way to meet new friends and be connected on a deeper level to campus life. Students have a variety of choices when considering an on campus residence. There are suite style residences and more traditional halls with both private and shared rooms; something for everyone.

Apartments are available for students with families and, on a limited basis, to graduate, nontraditional and students 21 and older. All of our residences are equipped with a phone line, cable TV outlet and Internet connection, in addition to the WiFi available throughout campus. Laundry facilities, lounge space and gaming areas are also a part of residential life at Highlands.

Welcome to the Cowboy Nation!

Cowboy athletics offer high-energy excitement for participants and spectators alike. From the much anticipated annual football homecoming celebration to a charged women’s soccer match, our athletic programs keep the Cowboy spirit going.

New Mexico Highlands University fields nine Division II NCAA sports and 10 teams: football, baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s soccer, women’s cross country, softball, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and wrestling.

Each of our athletics teams compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

For athletes, New Mexico Highlands University offers the challenge of competing and training in a high-altitude setting, using state-of-the-art equipment, dedicated trainers and great facilities.

In addition to formally organized sports, New Mexico Highlands University offers a variety of club sports including the 2015 and 2016 national champion Vatos rugby team.

What are the admissions requirements?

Applicants must submit the following for a complete application:

• Application form;

• A $15, nonrefundable, one-time application fee;

• Official high school transcripts;

• Official college transcripts (if applicable)

Admissions process

Admission applications are reviewed and decisions returned as quickly as possible once your application is complete. A complete application includes your submitted application, an application fee (unless waived), and official high school transcripts. Essays, portfolios or recommendations are not necessary.

Admission Term - Freshmen may begin in the summer, fall or spring terms after high school graduation. Most students apply for admission to the fall term (courses begin in August).

Application Form - Please submit either an online application or a hardcopy application form by the priority consideration deadline for the term to which you want to attend. We recommend the online application for faster response.

Priority deadlines:

Applications for undergraduate admission will be considered at any time; however, to ensure timely action on the application, students are advised to submit the completed application materials during the following suggested filing periods:

• For fall semester, previous November-August

• For spring semester, previous July-December

• For summer session, previous January-June
