The Best Feast By Jamison Davis

By the time you are reading this, it will be ten days until Thanksgiving: a day to think over what you are thankful, see family you haven't seen since last Thanksgiving, and enjoy a meal large enough to feed a football team. But, what really makes the best Thanksgiving feast? Breaking it down by courses, we'll figure out the answer.

First up, the main dish: turkey!! I mean, sure, you could go out and get a ham or a Cajun-style turkey from Popeye's (like my extended family did last year), but there's nothing better than a nicely cooked, crispy, yet juicy, regular turkey. You can spice it up and add to it how you would like, but turkey's pretty much the best option for Thanksgiving day, no doubt about it.

Next, the sides. Now, I could write this entire story just on the different sides that could be featured in a Thanksgiving feast. Personally, coming from a black family means that there will always be mac and cheese and greens on my plate. No matter what. However, in addition to these classic sides, mashed potatoes are always the move. You can eat them plain, with gravy, with butter and parsley, literally anyway you want. Sides are extremely versatile and can be the perfect additions to your meal.

Last (but definitely not least), the dessert. I'm sure it's been an age-old debate on which is better: pumpkin pie or sweet potato pie. But, as to defer any debate over which one to eat, you could also make a sweet potato casserole, or an apple tart. Honestly, any could work for this occasion, so you do you!! But, to put my two cents in: sweet potato pie is the best. Change my mind.

Phew, all this talk about the Thanksgiving feast is making me hungry, so Happy Thanksgiving and happy eating!!
