3. 1847 Texas voters elected George T. Wood as their new govener. 4. Wood lost the election to Peter Hansborough Bell.
5. In 1853 Texans elected Elisha M. Pease to the state highest office. 6. Pease was an active popular governor.
7. As governor Pease also began an executive building program in Austin. 8. Houston ran against Runnels.
9. Republican Party believed that slavery should be banned. 10. Know-Nothing Party an American Party.
