Joe Louis school was separated by blacks and whites so when Joseph was seventeen him and his friend Thurston McKinney went to Brewster's East side Gymnasium to see some real boxers. Joseph fought thurston and knocked him down.Joeseph knew he could be a boxer so he quit school in 1932.Later that year his first real fight a three round match. when he signed up for the fight he wrote Joe Louis so large there was no room on the form for barrow then Joseph Louis barrow was known as Joe Louis.
