WCPS Week 8 W/E 27/10/19

Wow what a half term! It has been incredibly busy but very productive! I am proud to say that we have a school full of amazing students who have really grown to show the traits we expect across the school and our school vision is really visible in the actions and choices of the children.

Over the last 8 weeks we have explored

history

through school learning about different time periods and events as well as comparing how times have changed.

This half term has also been busy for parents and it’s been great to see so many of you attending the events we have put on for you. Attendance at parents evening was fantastic with 93% of you attending appointments to find out about how your children are doing in school.

A sample of photos taken from parents events across the half term.

Next half term we are going to become geographers and explore the world! I can not wait to see where our travels take us!

Attendance is the best we have ever seen at WCPS however we are still below target.

School attendance since September is

95.8%

Although some classes are still well below this!

Last year at this point our attendance was 94.8% but we need to do more to get it up to our target.

To promote positive attendance we are launching November as attendance awareness month.

ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH

Every day counts

The aim of this initiative is to improve attendance throughout school and get up to target. We want to raise everyone’s awareness that every day really does count and for every minute missed a learning opportunity is lost.

Over the month of November we will be doing the following:

Each child to be given a reward card where for every full weeks attendance a stamp is awarded along with 40 dojo’s. For every stamp they earn they will be given a raffle ticket. This ticket is put into a key stage draw in assembly to win a prize that is drawn in Friday assembly.

This continues all term. The cards with 7 full weeks attendance then will be put into a draw to receive a big prize in the last week before Christmas. One of the prizes which has been donated by the trust is for a child to go on the Key Stage 2 residential, fully paid.

All the reward cards will also be entered into a Family draw to receive a family Christmas hamper.

Every week, each class who reach our target of 97% have a throw of the dice to earn a class reward on our attendance monopoly board. These rewards are for the whole class to celebrate their joint effort in achieving outstanding attendance. All classes who earn 100% attendance will continue to be rewarded with our weekly attendance cake.

There will also be awards for children with most improved attendance and punctuality across this month.
