Year End Edition:

Highlighting Student Career Plans

Josh Redepenning- Mechanical Engineering

In Engineering II, I was given the opportunity to develop a hydraulic robotic arm using design skills in SolidWorks and fabrication skills with our 3D printers. My engineering classes gave me the opportunity to have critical hands-on experiences, which helped me decide on my career field of interest.

Senior, Josh Redepenning, will begin his degree in mechanical engineering at the U of MN - Twin Cities this fall. He credits his coursework in AP Chem, AP Calc I, Intro to CAD, and Engineering I & II for sparking his interest in mechanical engineering and providing the foundational academic and technical skills to pursue the rigorous program at the U of MN. During our Career Exploration Days, Josh learned specific career information about different engineering fields from industry speakers he attended over the past three years. We can't wait to see what problems you solve in the future, Josh!

Kaitlyn Przybilla- EMT Leah Streff- CNA

After spending two years taking our EMR and EMT courses, I have decided to pursue a career as an emergency responder. Once I have gained more experience as an EMT, I will return to school to become a paramedic.- Kailtlyn
This year I really focused on my interest in healthcare by taking AP Chemistry, Intro to Healthcare, and EMR. I'm now a Certified Nursing Assistant and plan to work as a CNA this summer. Next year, as a senior, I'll continue to prepare for my future nursing program with AP Biology, CIS Human Physiology, Organic Chemistry, and EMT.- Streff

Hands on learning is the name of the game in our healthcare courses, where students are challenged to work through simulations and complete skills tests, assessed by professionals working in the industry. Our students also develop their readiness to treat patients through clinicals, ambulance ride-alongs, and working as emergency medical responders at our athletic events, treating injuries and sudden illness. We look forward to seeing you both help our community remain safe and healthy.

Cailee Casiday- Agriculture Education

My internship experience at Mickman Brothers through our Career Launch classes confirmed my interest in working with plants and people. Career Launch also ensured that I maintained a good routine powering through to the end of senior year, without being tempted to disengage from my future career goals.

During her senior year, Cailee discovered her love of agriculture. She found time to volunteer in the school's greenhouse and became involved in FFA. After continuing her work for a year, she plans to pursue a degree in agricultural education at the U of WI - River Falls. Maybe we'll someday see Cailee return to FLAHS as an ag teacher, teaching in the same green house where she began her career journey.

James Liston- Welding

I have been working (at Rosenbauer) part time for the last 8 weeks, and I would be proud to eventually call this facility my career. I have learned a lot about responsibility...simple things like always arrive early, know what is expected of me, and always wear necessary safety equipment.

After taking a variety of our Industrial Technology courses, including Metals I & II, James was able to further develop his welding skills through his internship at Rosenbauer, a major manufacturer of custom designed fire trucks. James has left school early during 4th quarter to participate in his credit bearing internship where he also gained some experience in their painting, design, plumbing, and electrical departments. Before his internship, James took Career Launch Explore to better his professional skills (resume writing, interviewing, etc.) and earn an initial safety credential, OSHA 10.
