PARENTS AS TEACHERS

Parents as Teachers enjoyed a morning at the Art Center making "monster crafts" and playing in the Look to Learn Gallery!

COLORADO ELEMENTARY

Mrs. Hines and Ms. Schumaker’s kindergarten classes learned about fire safety from Mr. Hartman of the Muscatine Fire Department.

Mrs. Hines kindergarten class celebrated with a pizza party for Selling 1,000 tickets for the school fundraiser!

Colorado 5th graders painting their sugar skulls in Ms. Holder's art class.

FRANKLIN ELEMENTARY

Ms. Harder's kindergartners practiced their 5 Little Pumpkins book!

A Franklin EL 1st grader in Mrs. Calderon's class made a birdhouse in the Franklin Maker Space Room. This will be hanging outside in the Franklin garden for a lucky bird family.

Franklin EL 5th graders in Mrs. Calderon's class enjoyed eating a chocolate cupcake while writing "A chocolate cupcake is..." on National Chocolate Cupcake Day.

GRANT ELEMENTARY

Grant students had fun in Leadership Lab this week! They learned about mammals, learned about sports safety, experimented with Mentos and different varieties of soda pop, and made their own homemade ice cream!

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY

A group of 4th graders played softball/baseball with counselor Mr. Colón at recess this week.

Jefferson 3rd graders were introduced to figure drawing and proportions in Ms. Stansbery's art classes last week. Pictured is Mr. Loos's class, modeling and practicing these concepts.

MADISON ELEMENTARY

Firefighters visited Madison Elementary this week to enjoy "Lunch with a Firefighter!" Students loved spending time with them and one lucky winner even sat in the truck!

MCKINLEY ELEMENTARY

Mrs. Luna's 1st graders celebrated Frankenstein Friday by making Frankenpudding! Students wrote adjectives to describe what it looks, feels, smells, sounds, and tastes like.

Students in Ms. Pedersen's 2nd grade class at McKinley made "donuts" during their Jr. Achievement activity.

WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL

The 6th Grade Choir kicked off the Fall Chorus Concert at WMS last week.

The 8th Grade Chorus nailed their opener! WMS has amazing talented students!

West Choir Finale gave the audience chills!

For their library lesson, Mrs. Plemmons' and Mrs. Ortega's students listened to and discussed the book, "How Do We Know It's Fall?" and then decorated pumpkins for the library. They had a ton of fun! ...

and in science class, students learned about nocturnal animals. Students got the opportunity to dissect owl pellets and finished their unit with a special visit from Nadie the Barred Owl who lives at the Discovery Center.

West Middle School Orchestra students, directed by Mrs. Blanchard, held their first concert of the year Thursday night. Students performed lots of wonderful, spooky music and dressed up in costume. Congrats to all who participated!

This is the beginning of a robot believe it or not in Mrs. Schroeder's FTC classroom at West. The student's first competitive meet is October 28th. Wish them luck:)

Students at West have been checking out the book fair and making plans for what they would like for themselves and suggestions for the library! The book fair will be open from Oct. 19 - 26 during school and conferences. Come out and support West library!

MUSCATINE HIGH SCHOOL

MHS Speech and Debate students KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK at the Polar Bear Invite in Des Moines! Brought home three titles!!🏆🏆🏆

MHS Key Club members took to the ditches this week to help make our city a more clean place! ...

and then today MHS Key Club President Saul Ocampo and Lieutenant Governor Julia So initiated 19 new members into the Muscatine High School Key Club at their meeting this morning. Congrats to all our new members!

Crop harvest started up at the Ag Learning Center as students from high school ag classes got a chance to help and watch the soybeans get combined up.

MHS held their Fall Choral Concert on Monday night! We have an amazing group of talented vocalists!

Congrats to the Mighty Muskie Marching Band for their 13th consecutive Division I rating at state marching contest on Wednesday, October 18th!

The MHS Treble Choir, under the direction of Teale Burford, records a holiday performance at St. Ambrose College for broadcast on KWQC during the holiday season. A regular every year, A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Jonathan Ryan, also recorded. This was Treble Choir's first time participating!

Seery Awbrey (soprano I), Joshua Lary (tenor II), Zeke Ellis (bass I), and Lizzie Shield (alto I) rehearse for their IHSMA All-State Choir auditions being held at Washington High School on Saturday, October 21st. They and eighteen other students have been preparing for this audition since August 5th!

Mrs. Calderon, Ms. Medina, and Mrs. Walker's students celebrated Hispanic Heritage at the University of Iowa Latino Youth Summit.​ Students enjoyed a cultural dance session, guest-speaker and a variety of sessions centered around understanding their contributions as Latinos.

Geometry students in Ms. Christensen's classes examined fair access to health care in Muscatine by constructing perpendicular bisectors.

MUSKIE FFA

A few middle and high school members of the Muskies FFA competed at the Purdue Boilermaker Mock Livestock Judging Contest on Friday. Teams from all over the US were there competing and practicing as most of them head to the national contest.

MUSKIE VOLLEYBALL

Muskie Volleyball beat Burlington in Regionals this week and move on to play Pleasant Valley next Tuesday night! Congrats Muskies!

@MuscatineVball wins the first game vs. Burlington!! 🏐🏐🏐

Boys Cross Country

Congrats to Tyler Olson for placing 12 at the district XC Meet in Iowa City! Tyler is a three-time individual qualifier. Great way to wrap up senior XC season!

DISTRICT STAFF

Central Middle School PLTW teacher, Jenny Mullikin, was awarded the Bandag Classroom of the Quarter Grant. She plans to use money from the grant to purchase thermal imaging units for students to conduct energy audits in their school and homes. Students will become more educated consumers and help their families save money at the same time. Congratulations Jenny!
