The Intersections of Social Justice, Psychology, & Blackness.
We are introducing the public to aspects of counseling psychology that are not commonly thought of, and engaging listeners in a conversation that delves deeper than the average show. We address social and cultural issues from the perspective of social scientists and psychologists.
This Mission of Naming It is to call out the elephant in the room, and to call in the voices of social justice that are normally muted.
"What's Going On?"
We choose current topics for our “What’s Going On” segment that provide examples of Black Excellence, relevant social issues, popular culture, and entertainment.
In our discussions, we take a deeper dive into topics that tend to be focused on the experiences of marginalized communities. We approach these issues from the perspective of social scientists, clinicians, and activists, in order to help bring clarity and/or provide support for our listeners. We try to have genuine conversations about the topic with the hope that listeners feel like we are just all hanging out.
We end the episode with a Self-Care Tip that listeners can use in order to help maintain their personal well-being and address the ongoing stress of engaging in social justice work.
