Want to improve your musicianship?

In downtown Grafton next to the Grafton-Midview Public Library there will be the Grafton Center of Musical Arts! They are having a "Meet the Teachers" Open House on Saturday September 29 from 9am-noon. This place is going to be awesome! Students of all ages can take private or group lessons AND they will have an opportunity to work with a qualified music on their instrument! Do you or your ensemble need to prepare for Solo and Ensemble Contest? Go here and get the instruction needed for musical success! Do you want to be a major in music in college? You MUST take private lessons NOW! Sign up with the Grafton Center of Musical Arts and begin your individual lessons today!

Private lessons are so essential for a musician. When they get one on one instruction they enjoy music performance more and have a better understanding of a quality performance. Click HERE to see the Benefits of Private Lessons (thanks to BandDirectorsTalkShop.com)

Pep Band

Hey Blue! The Marching Blue is never done! We must be ready for Basketball season! Every student is required to perform at 4 Pep Band events (each performance is 25 points). These 4 performances will be posted in the 3rd Grading Quarter. Students are to arrive at 6:30 in the Band room (however, you must sign up via Google Form).

On a side note, students are coming to Pep Band without music and it is evident that they do not have all of the music memorized correctly. PLEASE be prepared and have all of the music with you (either on your phone or in your flip-folio) when you come to Pep Band performances!

Smart Music

SmartMusic assignments are due on Fridays (Log in to SmartMusic to see specific dates). The expectation is to practice for 70 minutes over 7 days (SmartMusic records this automatically), you will need to do a scale, sight reading (you can only do 1 attempt on the sight reading assignment), and score an 80% or higher on the literature assignment. If for some reason you are not getting an 80% by the due date, submit your best percent and Mr. B will go in and listen to it. The minor issue of computer assessments is that it can be super accurate or it might not be so accurate. If Mr. B notices a low percent that is turned in, he will check it out right away. Remember, the percentage you get is NOT your actual grade. For example, an 80% in your concert literature is considered an A on your report card. If there are any questions, please email Mr. B.

The Expectation

It is expected that all students practice 70 minutes a week. Smart Music records the amount of time you practice. Also, the Directors can recognize if a student is progressing properly or not. The expectation is that students must prepare their part at home so we can improve our ensemble sound in class. If you are learning your part in class, you truly are not contributing the way you are required. Let's push our amazing talents forward and prepare your parts at home!!!!

Solo and Ensemble Contest is coming!

For those who have signed up for either OMEA or Lorain County's (LoCo) Solo and Ensemble Contest should be practicing their solo EVERY day! OMEA is February 9 and LoCo infor will be coming soon!
