The Schuylkill Navy – an association of amateur boat clubs in Philadelphia and the oldest amateur athletic governing body in the United States – accepted the Gillin Boat Club into the fold on September 20, 2004, by a unanimous vote of the delegates of the Schuylkill Navy's 10 member clubs.
"The Schuylkill River and Fairmount Park are home to North America’s largest active rowing community. The Gillin Boathouse is a landmark, on and off the water, for every athlete, spectator, and competitive event in Philadelphia. As the home for the Hawks, our first-class facility provides an experience and advantage that is completely unique." – Saint Joseph's men's rowing head coach Mike Irwin
