Literacy Night 2018 Georgia Milestones

School Goals: During the 2018-2019 school year the percentage of students scoring in the Distinguished and Proficient categories will increase to 50% or higher on the Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies Georgia Milestones assessment.

"The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (Georgia Milestones) is a comprehensive summative assessment program spanning grades 3 through high school. Georgia Milestones measures how well students have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state-adopted content standards in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students in grades 3 through 8 take an end-of-grade assessment in English Language Arts and mathematics while students in grades 5 and 8 are also assessed in science and social studies."-GA DOE

There are 3 types of questions that your student will see on the GMAS they are: selected response (multiple choice), constructed response (about 2-4 sentences), and extended response (5 paragraph essay).

Students will not only be asked what they know, but how they know the information. The students will be asked to support their answers with evidence and explanation.

We are working with students daily to work on these critical thinking skills, writing skills, and how to completely explain their answer using evidence.

There will still be multiple choice questions on the test, but they will not be the only type of question your student will see. The questions in all four subject areas will be both open-ended questions and selected response.

These are time tables for general education students. All ESOL and Special Education students will be given their accommodations for extended time, small groups, and/or dictionaries or read-aloud (depending on their ELLP or IEP or 504).

What do the levels mean?

The students need additional academic support to ensure success in the next grade level or course and to be on track for college and career readiness.
